What a great hotel. They greeted us like kind and warm friends. They were there for us at every turn. Rooms were clean and well lit. Excellent food and attentive servers are always ready to help. I had misplaced my cell phone during our stay, the staff went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that my phone was safely delivered to me back in the USA. Thank you to Louise and Eleanor
We've stayed at the Temple Gate several times. Some stays have been better than others. This one was average. I found the front desk staff less helpful than in times past and one in particular not very friendly at all. We felt we were imposing him any time we had a need or asked a question. The rooms are nice, spacious and clean. Beds are small. The rooms are quite spacious and I don't understand why they don't have larger beds. We had the equivalent of a full size bed in the States. When we asked to upgrade to a Queen we were told that was a Queen, but we have had proper queen size beds in other hotels and B&Bs in Ireland. We like a cool bedroom and there is no air conditioning here. We tried to sleep with the window open but our rooms were right by the bus station and made this impossible with the noise. Shower was good and hot but had one of those half doors that just ends up getting water all over the floor. The best feature is the convenience to town. You are in the heart of Ennis with everything in walking distance. Their parking can be a challenge. The spots are very tight and the lot can fill up quickly. Another convenience is the bar and restaurant in the hotel if you didn't want to wonder out. The bar staff were very nice. The pub food is OK. The dining room offers better selection. They charge extra for breakfast - a bit peculiar and the options not overly exciting. There is a bakery/cafe just next door and we had a delightful pastry and coffee there for a fraction of the price. In summary worth a stay but we wish there was more consistency in service.
Rooms super clean. Quiet giving us uninterrupted sleep. Staff helpful and pleasant. Situated right in the centre of Ennis. Delicious breakfast with the nicest bacon I've had in ages. We will definitely be back.
Room a bit noisy in mornings as directly in front of service staff stores. Also ground floor rooms need nets or other means of providing privacy other than having to keep curtains closed when in room. Security catch needed on window in order to leave open for fresh air.

I had a comfortable stay here for 2 nights but this hotel is definitely not 4 star. The breakfast wasn't great, my poached egg was hard and there was nothing else on the plate to provide lubrication. I asked for another egg and it didn't arrive. I couldn't get the attention of the waiting staff and there were people queuing at reception so I chose to send an email to complain, but I've not received a reply so far. I didn't bother getting up for breakfast on Sunday, it wasn't worth it.
When I checked out nobody asked me how was the stay, or I would have mentioned the awful plumbing. The cold water tap only produced hot or warm water so I couldn't drink it, I had to buy bottled water. On Saturday evening the shower was only hot or scolding, so I had to have a bath instead. In the morning it was lukewarm. The bathroom was clean but dated and tatty. The Old Ground is a much better hotel and I'll be staying there instead when I return to Ennis.
