Detailed Reviews
We were phoned on the morning of our one night stay to be advised that the hotel had overbooked and were we still coming as they had booked? When we said we were and that they had already taken payment, they said that would be fine. Not an auspicious start.
We arrived at around 4 into the large car park outside and rang the bell. Nobody appeared. We rang again and waited for another 10 minutes. Still nothing. We wandered around the place but finding no-one, decided to explore Ennis and try later. We then phoned and were told what the pass codes were and that he would leave the door of our room open and the key on the bed. Thus we checked in without seeing anyone!
Ennis is several miles away and the walk is not particularly pleasant. Therefore if you want to pop into town, a car or a taxi is advisable.
The room was in the new part of the hotel and there were no carpets in the corridor and lots of signs of ongoing building work. The room itself was absolutely enormous with two big double beds and what looked like half a fitted kitchen against the wall. Patio doors opened up to a huge outdoor space with decking and a river at the bottom. Beds were clean and comfortable and the bathroom was very nice.
However the TV didn't work, the internet was useless and when we complained the guy told us that they hadn't finished everything and we could only get Netflix at the moment. That didn't work either so we gave up, sat outside, watched the river and then slept in our enormous beds.
Patio doors are good when you are awake but there were no other windows, so when you go to bed, you either leave these doors open or sleep in a fully enclosed environment. Not ideal.
Our room cost £135 and that seemed plenty without breakfast. As there was also so little engagement, I don't think I would choose to stay again as it felt more like an AirBnB than a guesthouse and I like places to be a bit more welcoming.
But if you want a massive room, kitchen facilities and a big garden to run around, this place would be perfect.

This was the best B&B/Guesthouse stay we had in Ireland. The only negative thing we could say was the bathrooms are outdated but they were still very clean compared to others we stayed at and the water pressure was great.
The staff here were very friendly, the rooms were big and our kids loved the animal statues outside and running on the big grass area at the back. The area is very quiet, so quiet we slept in longer then we should have.

I had a very enjoyable stay in Ardilaun and could not recommend the place highly enough. Rooms are comfortable, heating is generous but can be adjusted to your taste, staff is very welcoming. I liked a nice self catering canteen room and the fact it could be used any time of the day. The real winner is the views onto Fergus river, I highly recommend booking a river view room you won't regret it. Ennis is in great location to be close to all the sights of the West of Ireland. The quality/ price ratio is great. Would certainly stay again/

I am leaving Ardilaun Guesthouse tomorrow after booking a 2 night stay. I deliberately chose a guesthouse rather than a hotel but I now wish I’d chosen a small family-run bed & breakfast. This guesthouse is, in my view, large enough to have a full-time day & night receptionist. On arrival I had to ring a bell as reception was unmanned & had to wait in the porch. The welcome from the man I found out today is the manager was pleasant but perfunctory. I was asked what time I wanted breakfast & that he assumed I wanted a full Irish. My room, number 5, was fine with a few of the river. I use a CPAP but there were no sockets by the bed. Fine, my OSA is moderate so 2 nights without a CPAP won’t kill me. I do find it strange though, in 2020, with people charging phones, iPads etc, to have no sockets beside the bad. Anyway last night, my neighbours in room 3, a woman with at least 2 men, decided to party, loud music, talk, laughter & more that I’ll leave to the imagination of people reading this review. As there is no staff member around at night & no phone in the room or any number to call, this led to a real problem for me in terms of getting any sleep. I ended up hammering on the wall a few times. They finally, after the 3rd or 4th time I did this, decide to settle down for the night, at about 2am. This is why I believe staying in a small family run B & B would have been better. The owners of such premises take pride in their product. Clearly the owners of Ardilaun Guesthouse take no such pride in their business. I wouldn’t stay here again, I like a business that cares about its customers.

I stayed one night here over Christmas en route to a wedding in Limerick. There were guests in the room next door to me playing music really loudly and smoking in the bedroom. I needed to be up very early in the morning for the wedding and wanted a good sleep.
I knocked on the wall and the music was turned up. I messaged the guesthouse on booking.com and the night manager went to the room and told them to turn the music down. Unfortunately as soon as the manager was gone the music got louder and they started shouting. This went on ALL NIGHT. I messaged the guesthouse again around 3am and the manager said he could put me in a different room.
The behaviour of the other guests made it a miserable stay, but I was happy that the guesthouse offered me another room. There was no one at the desk when I checked out in the morning so I couldn't discuss possibly getting a discount/refund.

The lady at reception was nice-ish, I paid but the card machine gave out blank receipts so she said the machine would have said if it hadn't gone through. We thought none of it till she came to our room abt 3 times and I went to reception as well and showed her on my banking app that the money was taken out of my account. She even took a pic of my transactions to go show her "boss". Each time she was saying it wasn't going through. There was construction going on till after 6pm on a Saturday evening and there was loud voices and music blaring from out of the bathrooms extractor fan. The mattress has seen better days and slanted so the top of the bed is lower than the feet end. You can feel the springs. Only 2 pillows and they were flat. Workman were walking past the patio door every few mins carrying building material. No window or fan only sliding door for fresh air. Construction on a sunday morning with workers walking past the sliding door talking. Water was pooling in the shower, we had to use our foot as a plunger. No plug for the sink. 1970's peachy toilet and basin. No one present to complain to when checking out at 11am as the reception doesnt open in the morning. Also no one at reception when we wanted more pillows. We wouldn't stay again. Only to discover that they charged my card again on 20/6/23. When they eventually answered their phone I was told there was something wrong with the machine and the 1st transaction did not go through even though I had showed them proof that it had. So without my knowledge or consent they charged me again and I will have to wait 3-5working days for a refund according to the owner who was pretending to be the receptionist on the phone. They totally spoilt what was meant to be a lovely weekend away after months of not having a weekend off.

I would not recommend staying here. This place needs work. The wifi was spotty and the television did not work. In 2 out of 3 of our rooms.
The rooms smelled moldy. Showers were extremely small.
They did not provide fans and there was no exhaust fan or a/c.
The beds were not comfortable.

Stayed one night prior to a hen party the next day. Booked via Airbnb, didn't have much contact prior despite a message i had sent confirming I could arrive after 9pm due to my flight. They apologised for this as I arrived 2 minutes before they would have closed! Check in was swift and problem-less and I was shown to a nice quiet room. Shower was powerful and warm which was bliss. Plenty of towels as the room was made up with two double beds. I was very cold and had to use the duvet from the other bed as well as my own, couldn't work the radiator in my room. TV worked fine although had limited channels. Had a very good information pack on what to do nearby. I left early the next morning and didn't get to say bye or thank them. So thank you!

Broken Bathroom sink. No curtains in room except for blackout curtains therefore anyone could look into the room during the day. Mattress needs replacing all you felt were the springs. Wi-fi spotty and power when out several times during stay. Would not recommend staying there

The room was nice but small. However no breakfast offered! Two days out of three we did not have warm water in the shower. One of us got lucky, the second one missed. The front rooms are noisy if you keep the window open. The gravelled parking lot let you hear every car move. Also you can hear noise from the neighbors rooms. The light on the mirror in the bathroom did not work and they couldn't fix it during our stay.
