This is a real gem of a B&B, far outperforming many very good hotels. The host, Richard is personable and pleasant who goes out of his way to make one’s stay a real treat. He utilises his local knowledge and his expertise in hotels & hospitality based on vast experience. His breakfasts are amazing! We (two couples) spent 4 days at Ardoran House. On arrival and a warm welcome we were given information about the internet, the two hotels that offer dinner with Richard booking one of them for us that evening. Each room was excellent and comfortable. We strolled and explored as far as the Abbey. (during Covid on-line booking is necessary for tours as well as daily worship). We enjoyed two recommended walking routes though when we attempted off-piste we got bogged down. The feeling was rectified when we saw two Corncrakes chasing each other! A boat trip to Staffa was a definite highlight as the puffins were in good form, many landing within a few feet of where we were seated on the cliff. On our last evening we all sat in the ‘hot-tub’ each drinking a glass of wine. Without doubt the stay at Ardoran was an experience that will live long in our memory.

Great location with wonderful sea views, bedroom was big and Richard served a lovely breakfast. Iona is a beautiful Island but felt all restaurants and accommodation is expensive compared to other Scottish islands.

We felt thoroughly spoilt by host Richard, starting with a delicious and substantial breakfast, and enjoying his company with a [free!] drink in the conservatory before we set out for supper. Our room was a generous size, beautifully clean, totally quiet, with a view of sheep on the hillside, and all mod cons, including good bedside lighting There were umbrellas and wellingtons for us by the door. We really enjoyed the decor and personal touches too. Thank you Richard!

This was my first visit to Iona and I am so grateful for the amazing accommodations and hospitality at The Ardoran House. It was a splendid place to stay. Richard, our host, quietly worked “behind the scenes” to make sure that our stay was comfortable and memorable.

We returned for a visit to Iona for three nights and were delighted we chose to stay at Ardoran House. Our host, Richard, could not have been more solicitous of our every need. He also is a well of knowledge about the island and its history. Not only did he prepare the best full Scottish breakfast with all the trimmings, but he changed our trip to Staffa for us due to inclement weather, and arranged for lovely Catriona to drive us to the ferry on the rainy morning of our departure. The House itself is marvelous. Two spacious sitting areas are filled with light, and has been decorated to bring the island in, not to shut it out. We stayed in Room One, with a view out over the Sound of Iona, with pastel sunrises and indigo moons. It was ideally located for every direction of travel. And very, very nice, with a modern en suite and strong shower, much appreciated after hours of wonderful walks and hikes. Can’t say enough about this special place. Thank you, Richard!
