5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

My wife and I stayed for a long weekend and ate in the hotel restaurant both nights. It turned out to be a great choice for staying and for eating. Very peaceful setting but conveniently only yards from the pier (though nothing's far away on Iona - it's a small island). Blissfully quiet at night and with a beautiful view... More

Don't tell anyone I told you: the Argyll Hotel is one is the one of the finest in Scotland. Its location faces east onto a beach and the ferry pier. An easy walk to the pier. It is close to all amenities. The food is when possible home grown! The presentation and combinations are imaginative and the vegetarian options are... More

From our room. Rooms are very small but clean. Very odd to not have a shower on the wall. No wash cloths FYI. Breakfast was smoked trout and scrambled eggs very tasty but the portions are very small. Very close to ferry dock. First day breakfast attendant was unfriendly. Second day next guy was very nice and I later learned... More

Dear Susie I am glad that you found the hotel to your liking! My apologies for the unfriendliness on the first morning - it is unlike our staff to be like that. We keep food portions smaller as that suits the majority of our customers as well as minimising waste. There is of course the buffet and toast to fill... More

We absolutely loved staying at the Argyll. The family room was immaculate and comfortable, and commodious for a no-frills hotel (well, it's actually far from 'basic', but it stops short of being categorised as 'boutique'). Easily the best accommodation on Iona (and I've stayed at the competition before, as well as a B&B) and with the sweetest front garden by... More

The Argyll Hotel is fantastic, we stayed for two days and were made so welcome by all the staff and owners! The food was all homemade and organic and was amazing! We had three courses both nights along with some of their Prosecco cocktails which were delicious! We had a small room at the back of hotel which was adequate... More

Just back from two nights at the Argyll as part of a wonderful wedding party. I'm gluten free and they couldn't have been more helpful. Home made gluten free bread for breakfast (beats the socks off the usual stuff) and great choices and options for dinner. They made a special gluten free brownie for dessert just for me which was... My partner booked the 2 night trip to Iona as a birthday surprise and we stayed 2 nights. We had visited briefly about 6 years previously for a day trip and had coffee and cake there and we always said we would like to come back and stay. The hotel is in a stunning location only a few hundred yards... More

Returned to the argyll after gap of nearly 8 years.Obviously same glorious location, same compact rooms, same green environmental ethos but now with different owners. Three night stay in sparkling clean room overlooking the sea, same trip downstairs to borrow hairdryer( do guests really steal them?) same lack of toiletries and tissues in the ensuite. ...but all forgiven for delight of staying... I am pleased that generally you were happy with your stay with us and that you found the room spotless. We avoid putting hairdryers in rooms as the rooms are not large and can look cluttered with this addition – certainly not because of stealing. The toiletries provided should have been the soap, bath foam and shampoo, but tissues are... More

Sitting outdoors in a beautiful garden, overlooking the sea towards Mull, we enjoyed a cream scone with home made jam, and tea. It was very relaxing and quiet. Service was fairly prompt and staff were pleasant. The price seemed quite expensive as it was unclear on the menu what type of scone etc was to be served. However, when it... More

Dear Tallis I am glad that your scone, jam and cream were appreciated. We vary the scone sometimes (fruit or plain) and always tell people the options if asked. I am sorry that this was not made clear and will adjust this for the future. Thank you for your review. More

We spent two nights in the wee back room. Our bathroom next door was stylish, although now shower. Lots of hot water. The food was excellent. Local fish, hogget, and their own organic vegetables. Good vegetarian choices. Lovely smoked trout with scrambled eggs for breakfast.
