We stayed in a superior lodge and had booked a pod for dinner. The room was spacious, clean, great views and the bed super comfy. The pod dinner was an amazing experience and would definitely book again, it’s slightly more expensive but well worth it. Staff were all lovely and attentive, slight wait at breakfast as there wasn’t any staff at the welcome desk when we arrived but once seated the breakfast was cooked well and very quick service. Would definitely recommend.
We have been to Fonab quite a few times, both as a couple and with friends. Each time the hotel and its staff have been excellent. The lounge with its views is so relaxing to chill in, and meals in the Brasserie superb. It is pricey though, and with 12.5% discretionary charge on food and 15% on drinks in the lounge, that bumps the price up. We arrived at 3 pm and wanted to relax in the lounge for the rest of the afternoon. We asked for coffee and scones. Our server said he would check to see if scones were available and returned to say there were none as only enough is made that are required for afternoon teas. The only thing he could offer was chocolate chip cookies, which are not much larger than a £2 coin and are always served with a hot drink anyway. For a hotel of any standard this was disappointing, but for Fonab we felt this was really poor. On the website cream teas are offered, but nowhere does it say this needs to be pre-booked. It also meant that when we were out the next day we stayed out longer in order to ensure we had our mid-afternoon coffees elsewhere, rather than returning to the hotel. However, this is our only complaint, and we will return,.…
Fonab is an outstanding 5* great value hotel which Unlike some other 5* hotels in the area has a very strong family and team Fonab feeling which allows guests to relax. Some 5* can be very “stuffy” and too formal. Fonab balance is terrific delivering terrific friendly service, outstanding food and terrific grounds especially at Loch and route into Pitlochry.
We stayed here for a weekend in February. We had a lovely room in the castle with great views of the loch. The food was great and Thomas in the bar gave us great service with his extensive knowledge of whisky. Unfortunately when we checked out we left 2 items in our room by mistake. We realised the next day and phoned the hotel. Over a 3 weeks period we phoned the hotel several time and we’re told someone would call us back. I also sent several emails, and only received one response to say someone would get back to me. I asked twice for my email to be sent to the general manager. I find it unacceptable that nobody from the hotel had the courtesy to look for our items and get back to us. Obviously it was our fault for leaving the items in the first place, but accidents happen and most places have a lost property service as I’m sure we’re not the first people to leave items behind in the room. This experience has been very frustrating and the fact we have just been ignored leads us to suspect our items were taken by the hotel staff and nobody wants to own up to it. The complete silence is not what you would expect from a hotel of this standard and has clouded our memory of our stay. …
We requested early check in due to the spa appointments being brought forward and the fact we had a 5 month old arriving with us for our short stay - the team couldnt have been more accomodating and went that extra mile to ensure that we were comfortable at all times.
We had a lovely couple of days at the Fonab Castle. From the moment the concierge took our luggage from the car to the room until we left we felt really at home. The food in the brassiere was fantastic, great bar and all the staff very attentive…we have no hesitation in recommending the Fonab Castle as a must to visit and indulge yourselves in a lovely part of Scotland.
Received an overnight stay as Xmas gift from our daughter. Very impressed with castle from the minute it came into view. Everything about the place is definitely 5 star. Keeping fingers crossed for next Christmas, lol
Wanted to take the family away for my special occasion birthday. Spend some quality time together was the plan. That is exactly what we got. Very warm welcome then shown to our room which was very nice. Not perfect but nearly. Had dinner the first night in the brasserie. Good selection and our party thought the quality was exceptional. Breakfast was fantastic and a large choice available. The lounge was lovely with superb views over the river and looking onto the dam. Thomas the bar man had an astounding knowledge of whisky and we managed to try several different brands. The spa was very good and not too busy when we were there. Lovely grounds to the castle and an easy walk into Pitlochry. Busy A9 close to the castle but never heard a thing once inside. Not a cheap few days but it was worth it as it was exactly what we wanted. Quality is never cheap. Visited the area many times and will continue to do so. …
Arrived at 3 o’clock to check in, was told room wasn’t ready yet, should only be 5/10 minutes. Taken to bar and told a member of staff will be up to get us when the room is ready. Waited in bar for an hour and a half still no one arrived, got sick of waiting and went to reception only to be told they had forgotten and nothing was handed over. Eventually got keys nearly 1 hour 45 minutes later. Not what your expect for 5 stars and nearly £400 for one night. Stayed in lodge 5, when we eventually got the keys for the room all I can say is we were very disappointed, no chance it’s a 5 star room, give it 3 stars at a push. Wall paper ripped and hanging off wall, skirting boards manky and covered in marks, light hanging off the wall by its wires (I’m an electrical engineer and not only doesn’t look great also extremely unsafe), big crack in ceiling in bathroom with paint hanging off roof, extractor fan in bathroom chocked, bath had a crack in it, door in and out of the room had broken and had door mechanism removed so had to lock it to keep it closed, probably other things just that I’ve forgotten about them. Stayed in nicer Premier Inn’s and I’m not even being sarcastic Over priced restaurants to say the least, £2 bottle of beer being sold for £9, £12 for soup is also a bit extreme especially when it’s not even that nice. My partner had the risotto for her main, rice was undercooked and scallops were overcooked and for £28 you’d expect more than 2 scallops. Also had sticky toffee pudding for dessert, sauce tasted burnt and wasn’t nice at all. Breakfast is also a rip off, £27 for a very measly poorly attempted cooked breakfast, you’d expect more than 1 sausage and quality ingredients for that price.…
Mother's Day afternoon tea £40 per head On arrival a concierge in smart Scottish dress met us and parked the car, reception staff all stopped what they were doing to welcome us.2nd concierge was just as friendly as three first and showed us to a lift up to three brasserie. What a great welcome. Once the lift opened things just went from great to pretty awful quickly. Service is slow. I mean sloooow. We were in 45 minutes before we got food. Trying to get a servers attention took dedication. At one point I collected my own drinks from the coffee bar. Attentiveness is non existent, even in a greasy spoon someone will check "is everything ok" Was asked when paying the question, replied no , got argued with a little then settled on well sorry you didn't like it. And for that person. The bread on two off the three finger sandwiches was hard. For all platters at our table. No matter how many times you say it wasn't. (That way over refrigeration will make bread stiff/hard/lost moisture. Top arrival and departure…
