Great location on the edge of town centre by the river with easy parking in quiet street. Our room was spacious and light. Restaurant food was very good and staff were excellent throughout. Recommended as a stop on the NC500.

Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Food very good. We were just in time for dinner after driving up from Inverness. Great breakfasts too. Great location for the John o’groats trail along the coast.

This was a great find. The staff were incredibly welcoming and the hotel was comfortable. We had room 201, the one to book if you can. Convenient parking outside, which was great as we were on the final leg of the NC 500.

Our room was very small and the bed wasn't comfortable. We were asked to use the back staircase to go down and the lift to go up to our room. for covid reasons. The back staircase wasn't very clean and was being used by workmen going up and down to do repair work. Dinner was nice and the service and staff very efficient and friendly. Breakfast was ok except for the very strong stewed coffee. I had a sip and left it. The waitress asked if I didn't like it, when I replied no, she didn't ask why or offer another. The hotel was much cheaper than most of the others we stayed in.

Dear fromnotts Would you contact me direct to let me know which room you were in, ellie @ mackayshotel.co.uk We have a one way system in place for guests currently for COVID safety reasons, we are hoping to change this soon. We did have notices up about the upgrade work so guests know the corridors may not be as tidy as normal while work is ongoing. Sorry about the coffee, if you contact me with your date of stay I can update the training of the team member. Hope you’re enjoyed our beautiful area. Warm regards Ellie

We had a good night's sleep with very effective black-out curtains in this city hotel. Friendly staff, excellent dinner in No 1 Bistro - breakfast more pedestrian. Lovely walk around nearby harbour with information boards about history, especially the herring industry. Good one way system and plenty of distancing in dining rooms.
