Just a one night stay on a drive around the North Coast 500 route. The dining room is not large, meaning that a reservation is necessary, but the food is absolutely superb. The staff in this family run hotel are very helpful, and, in fact, the owner came over to check our opinion of the meal and have a chat.... More

We went here for lunch after visiting the museum nearby. Loved the soup, the bread, the salmon, the veggies and the dessert. Lovely meal. Quaint setting. Did not stay at the hotel so can't comment on that.

The entire Mackay's staff was like a well adjusted family all working to provide the most pleasant visit possible. I'm sure they have their moments, but out visit was superb. We were fed well. Beautiful food. Helpful staff and patient bartenders who were eager to help once engaged.

Our rooms were very good - clean and comfortable. Parking in the street outside the hotel was easy. Note there is no lift, so first floor rooms recommended for those who prefer to avoid stairs. The hotel seemed to run efficiently - the owners (we presume, as they never introduced themselves) were often around overseeing staff who were not inclined... More

Dear Pigeon78 I am sorry the team appeared disinclined to chat, it is unusual. I have also spoken to the housekeeping team about the matter of the dishes, this should not have happened, thank you for bringing it to our attention. Great to read you liked our rooms and housekeeping delivered their usual high standard or cleaning! Hope you enjoyed... More

Before I start I should make it clear that I did not stay the night at this hotel, which is why what I am about to say is even more exceptional. For reasons, that are too long to explain here, I ended up at this hotel at 9.30pm without a room booking. (I was tricked - nothing to do with... More

We stayed 2 nights here. The staff were really friendly and welcoming and the breakfast included in the price was varied and tasty and service was very nice. The rooms were clean and tidy However the floorboards were very noisy (squeaky)! We could hear our neighbours every steps (from sides rooms and above us) and our floorboards were just as... More

Dear Peanut E Thank you for your review, I am sorry you found the floorboards squeaky, it's not something that has ever been mentioned before. If you could email me on ellie@mackayshotel.co. uk and let me know which room you were in that would be helpful. The team will be pleased you enjoyed their service and I hope you enjoyed... More

We stayed in Mackays Hotel during the North Coast 500 and enjoyed our stay. The hotel is family run and we were greeted by Murray on arrival. Murray was warm, friendly and very helpful. The hotel could do with a slight update but everything was clean and all guest requirements were clearly thought of. The hotel WiFi worked well and... More

Traveling for work, I was originally booked into another hotel in Wick but arranged to change my booking to MacKays following a recommendation (and dire warning about the other place) by a colleague. I'm glad I did because MacKays was very pleasant. Check in was quick and friendly, I was offered a newspaper and a dinner reservation. My room was... More

We stayed on our tour through Scottland for two nights in the hotel. The staff was very friendly and our room was nice and clean. The breakfast was very good and the restaurant (Bistro No. 1) was very good.
