Converted in to a B & B by a young couple from an old Victorian Bank building. Situated in the centre of the town it was conveniently placed .The entrance from the busy High Street makes uncomfortable parking to unload and load the car although there is free public car park accessed via several steps. As all the rooms are on higher floors and there is no lift, all the luggage has to be hauled manually up and down the stairs. The room in the attic overlooking the roofs of the town was probably the best room even if it is compact. Breakfast was in in a dedicated dining room with the usual facilities for continental breakfast and cooked breakfast which was prepared with personal great care was very nice.

Bank Guesthouse called me about an outstanding reservation for 5 rooms a week later. I told them I had cancelled all my bookings for Scotland and contacted Booking.com. This booking did not appear in my list anymore, so the helpdesk tried to contact Bank Guesthouse to resolve the issue. They did not respond to the phone calls or emails from booking.com and instead reported a no-show and collected the complete sum of 515 euros for five rooms. I feel utterly robbed and they do not respond to any of my communications at all. If you like to treated like this, Bank guesthouse is the place to be. Booking.com reference 2151.805.277

Upon ringing to try and get in as no answer when ringing the bell, we just got a ‘hello’, no welcome greeting or name of guest house mentioned. We were told our room key was in an open box behind the door (open to the busy street). We let ourselves in and climbed the 2 steep flights of stairs to be greeted by open doors to other bedrooms, some with unmade beds. We went in our room and it smelt musty and damp. The window was open onto the busy street. There was one old cup and a broken ‘breakaway’ biscuit draped over the top of it by the kettle. We didn’t even put our bags down. As there was no one there to speak to we left quickly and found a beautiful guest house up the road. This place has no reviews since Feb 2020. We couldn’t get a refund but to be honest we were glad just to leave.

Don’t be put off by the main road entrance as the car park is just behind the hotel and there is a cut through beside the hotel. Perfect location for a base with shop across the road and restaurants and pubs just around the corner Superb breakfast and room was lovely and warm for a cold February night. Only thing is that there is no lift so 4 flights with a heavy suitcase was a pain.

We found the Bank Guesthouse location easy to find, though parking outside in Bridge St., Wick may on occasions cause some issues. After unloading our bags, directions were given to a public parking area at the back of the guesthouse. Guestrooms rooms are up steep stairs to the 3rd floor, with the breakfast dining area located below on the 2nd floor. Some guests with physical issues may experience problems accessing the stairs, though for us it was fine. Our quiet family room was clean and tidy, with a view over the rooftop to nesting seagulls, which did not make to much noise. After unpacking and checking our booking, we found that the family king with twin bed room we booked and paid for through a website, was a family double with a twin bed (both family rooms variations being available), whist we were aware at check-in the guesthouse had 'No Vacancy' upon arrival. We also found our shower took minutes too warm up before we were able to use it and was easier to leave it running for the 2nd shower. Once switching the shower off it again took minutes to get warm again. The room booking was brought to the attention of the owner when he appeared in the breakfast room in the morning. He was shown our online booking information, indicating a Family room with King bed and advised me our room was assigned at time of our booking (a month earlier), but he would check. Departing an hour later, we had not heard or saw anyone from the Guest House. We were not seeking any reimbursement, but wished to clarify the problem and ascertain where our booking problem had occurred, but appears be an issue they did not wish to address. The positive in our stay was the exceptionally good continental breakfast provided.
