This is an over priced miserable place. The staff look miserable no doubt because of the tired and at times grubby surroundings. The shower in my room was a joke, "turn on the tap really slowly if you want hot water", looked like and was a bodged plumbing job. The soundproofing was hopeless and the room grubby. The water coming... More

Took 10 minutes just to find room had to get reception staff to take me and even they had problems finding quickest way. Room was small, I could not have a shower as entrance/exit was too close to the toilet, I had to close curtains even during daylight as street looked directly into room so lack of privacy. The meal... More

At the end of a long day travelling this is just what you want. It may be a maze trying to find your room, but no complaints. Everything that you need and nice meal to end the day. Breakfast was just a good. It's not trying to be a five star hotel, just a nice friendly place.

This older hotel reminded me of how things were in the 1950's. Rooms are quaint with small TV's & older decor and furnishings. Bathroom adequate with plenty of hot water for shower. Dining room with nicely prepared foods. Probably above "status quo" for the area !

It was our stop for next day visiting Orkney island. At first impression, hotel is not appealing, but for one night the surprise was a clean, comfortable room. Hotel situated in center of city, easy to get everywhere (cathedral, beach, walking streets). The decor comes from better times, you have only one small elevator and finding your room looks like... Having struggled to book a hotel in Wick we looked slightly further afield and headed towards Thurso however there appeared to be "no room at the Inn" except The Royal Hotel whose reviews were very unpromising or if you prefer dreadful but as we were by this time a little desperate we look the plunge and booked. What a mistake!!... More

I have stayed here several times as a result of working locally. It is central, easy to locate and has parking both to the front and rear. The meals are reasonable in quality and price, the rooms warm and clean and the staff very helpful. The breakfasts are also very good.

We stayed here for one night and if you are after a bed for the night in the centre of Thurso and aren't fussy then this will do you fine. Plus points: in the centre of Thurso, large hotel, car parking available (if you are early) Minus points: very old hotel so everything here is dated, old style decor, beds... More
