The best b and b yet - particularly fine. Beautifully presented spacious room, very good bathroom. All needs anticipated. There were welcoming chocolates, big towels and comfortable bed. Was particularly impressed byb The travellers pack which provided details and marked map of all interesting sites and activities in Caithness. Excellent breakfast. Would love to return. Nothing was too much trouble.

Pennlyand is absolute perfection. The owners are beyond kind (they even drove my partner and I to dinner so that we could enjoy the long walk home). The premises is renovated in a relaxed modern style with perfect taste. Breakfast is ample and delicious. Rates are a steal.

Alison, Carole and Raymond work so hard to make this a pristine welcoming and comfortable experience for their guests The rooms are beautiful - in keeping with the style of the building without feeling "reproduction" and the staircase to the upper rooms is something else! The breakfasts selection is extensive and freshly cooked - be prepared, go hungry !! Thank... More

Had originally booked with Campfield House but due to a family wedding we were transferred to Pennyland – kismet – excellent choice – can’t complain – one of best B&Bs we have stayed in anywhere on our travels We stayed here for one night – 16 June – in Loch Lomond – spacious double room on the ground floor facing... This is one of the nicest B and B we have stayed in. Location is overlooking the sea, perfect location to stay if you are using the ferry port at Scrabster. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the breakfasts are wonderful. Carol is very attentive and nothing is to much trouble. We will return!!

Whilst the extent of the accommodation here is more akin to a guesthouse, you will find that the care and attention you receive from Carol and Raymond is very homely. Clearly they both enjoy welcoming guests into their home, which has a number of well appointed rooms, and a spacious dining area to enjoy breakfast. There are a number of... More

We stayed at Pennyland B&B for just one night at the end of May and wished we could stayed for longer. Raymond & Carol made us very welcome and couldn't do enough for us. The rooms were spacious and well appointed and the breakfast was excellent. We will definitely return again in the future, Highly recommended.

Excellent location overlooking the Pentland Firth. We spent three nights in the Royal Dornoch room. Carol and Raymond were most welcoming the house was beautiful and the attention to detail was excellent.. The breakfast was great and there was a good choice. It was a 10 minute walk into the centre of Thurso where there was plenty of places for... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Pennyland House is located on the edge of Thurso in a quiet, but convenient location and boasts wonderful views of the Orkney Islands, Dunnet Head, Scrabster and Thurso Bay. It is a three story building dating back over two hundred years. Built in 1780 it is historically noted for being the birthplace of Sir William Alexander Smith, the founder of the Boys Brigade. Over the past few years we have sympathetically renovated this historic building and turned it into a comfortable and interesting bed and breakfast for our guests. Although not yet rated, we are confident that you will not be disappointed with the quality and service during your stay with us. We have enjoyed putting our personal stamp on Pennyland House and have tried to reflect what we believe people want in a 'home from home'. ... more   less
