two of my friend had stayed in the hotel a couple of years ago and said it was a good place to stay.. but when we got there we were quite surprised to find out that the place was full of refugees . nothing against them but just felt a bit uncomfortable when they kept staring at us . didn't... My experience in this place was similar to a one episode in Hell's Hotel, only without Gordon... The entrance is dark and creepy, and the reception is everything but welcoming. I was assigned room 1 on the basement (the keychain was bigger than my purse..). When I entered the room I think my soul left my body trying to run... More

What an awful place! Both myself and a buissness partner picked the Victorian house which is described as a hotel. Firstly I would like to say it is is not a hotel! It is in fact a hostel !! And posted all over hostel world ... Where I do not have a problem with hostels I do find it rather... More

Good location but place overall looked run down and no working coffee machine for breakfast.staff at reception were friendly and staff at breakfast in the morning were less friendly. Given the choice I would not stay at this place again.

The room is simple yet completely met my needs, with tea service in the room. The wifi worked well in the room and there is a nice sitting area outside in front. The full Scottish breakfast had many many options, all well prepared. Very good value and just a 5 minute walk to the city center.

When I arrived I had dead bugs on my bathroom floor, I left them there for the maid to clean and she didn't until three days later. My sheets were not once cleaned and the place was crawling with refugees. Will never go back.

Two couples stayed here for an overnight on the way to Edinburgh. We will never stay here again. Approach to the property is tenuous with crooked steps and weeds growing through them. Reception is a large space with just two well worn couches set on threadbare carpet. Crazy maze to get to the rooms. Bed was nice, but bathroom well... More

I have stayed at the Victorian House on a number of occasions over the past number of years and I will be back again twice this month. Obviously, I feel comfortable here. I know what to expect... or sort of. No, I did not expect to see the place filled with refugees but that may well be the reason that... More

Positives: Large, spacious room with very comfortable bed. In a quiet location but close to the centre. Breakfast included cooked options as well as fruit, yoghurt etc. Negatives: Reception area is a bit dated. En-suite only shower and not bath.

Stayed here for a weekend in December, the trip advisor reviews were so-so but I'm so glad we booked to stay here. The room was absolutely gorgeous, beautiful bay windows with wooden floors. The staff were really friendly, easy-going and didnt mind late check in etc. It's also in a great location, especially if you want to be halfway between... More
