I spent the last week at the Argyll Hotel and could not have enjoyed my stay more (particularly during these strange times). The staff were friendly, helpful and reassuring; making sure that hygiene and guest safety was prioritised during all interactions. The room was spotless and the bed extremely comfortable. The breakfast was also top-notch and Linda, the server, made me feel welcome and looked after throughout my meal. Looking forward to my next stay immensely.

If you smoke at all, be very aware that this hotel will charge you £100 for any smell of smoke even if just from your clothes. Despite going outside every single time to smoke, and being seen by reception staff and most likely on CCTV, they charged £100 saying they could smell smoke and had seen tobacco on side table. There was no smoking in the room whatsoever and yet they have charged £100. There is no sign saying you can’t bring tobacco in or wear clothes that smell of cigarettes. Only no smoking in the hotel which was followed. Despite phone calls and emails they are not willing to reverse the charge. This is a bordering on a scam and is a very distressing and costly charge that in no way was justified. Avoid this hotel!

Hello Pamela, We are sorry to hear you are frustrated by the smoking charge. Please note smoking in any Hotel room has been illegal since 26 March 2006. We would never charge a guest for their "clothes smelling like smoke". We only make a charge if we find evidence in the room which we are happy to pass on to you if you get in touch. We had several complaints from other guests about the smell coming from the room. The very pungent smell of smoke from the room meant we were unable to sell your room the night after causing a revenue loss to the hotel. Our housekeeping team had to use special equipment to purify the air. I can ensure you it is not "bordering on a scam" guests are made well aware of the consequence of smoking in our rooms on arrival. It is clearly stated on the registration form you sign before you entering the room. We also have serval notices around the hotel which reiterate this is a non-smoking hotel. We are sorry for any inconvenience or "distress" this may have caused you but our policies are in place for a reason. We wish you all the best.

Our stay was great and it would have been 5 stars if we weren’t charged £100 for a smoking charge 2 days after our stay when there was no smoking in the room. It’s left me overdrawn with no money to get to work(we both work for the NHS) and no money to feed a child and get her to school all week. They are refusing to reverse the charge after having all this explained to them. In the middle of a pandemic you would think they would have more compassion!

Hello Kayleigh, Thank you for your review. We are happy you had a lovely stay with us. We are sorry to hear you are frustrated by the smoking charge. Please note smoking in any Hotel room is illegal. We wouldn't have charged you without evidence of smoking in the room. Guests are made well aware of the consequence of smoking in our rooms on arrival. It is clearly stated on the registration form you sign before you entering the room. We also have serval notices around the hotel which reiterate this is a non-smoking hotel. We have had many NHS staff stay with us even threw the height of the pandemic isolating away from there families when they had nowhere else to go not for a holiday, who were all so thankful for our service. We continue to support NHS staff, Cares and Cleaners. This ensures we can pay our housekeepers to deep clean the room thoroughly and use the specialised equipment needed to get rid of the smell of smoke. We truly apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you or your family, this was not out the intention. As a family-run business, our policies are in place for a reason. We wish you all the best and if you need anything else please get in touch.
