...Attractive, cosy (despite being very big), friendly, helpful staff, big comfy beds, big bathrooms and a great pool and spa... For example, our room costing £300+ a night had thick dust on lamps and a torn duvet cover at the top... The rooms are hot and the air con is loud... Then the room wasn't serviced despite us being out all day and returning after 7pm... And there was a mix up on rooms on arrival so had to relocate and then no rollaway bed despite checking in advance (and when we got to the hotel an hour earlier)... My takeaway is if you are selling yourself as a five star hotel you have to get these kind of things right...

...This hotel is nice, but it definitely is not a 5 star hotel. We stayed 2 nights (roughly £250 per night)... We had some issues immediately after checking in to realise we had been put into an accessible room which we weren’t aware of booking... These rooms don’t come with a bath tub even though the hotel website says every room has a bath... So we called the number on the phone that takes you direct to the room service person, only to be told they don’t do room service... All in all: Pros - good buffet breakfast options, big spacious rooms, large atrium with lots of seating, good spa facilities Cons - Iack of room service, no specific a la carte breakfast ordering, overrun with kids during holidays, slightly outwith St Andrews centre need a car or taxi...

...Advised on check in that our room was not ready, no offer to store our bags in the meantime... My partner then received the call for our room, an hour and a half later... The room was of its usual high standard although no mini bar, phoned reception to be told it isn’t done anymore so forwarded to room service to order drinks which obviously took some time to arrive... We got out as soon as possible Back in our room by 9.15pm and decided I would order room service as it was advertised on the tv and website that the kitchen was open until 11pm... Only helpful or friendly person we encountered during our stay was the young man who served us the room service...

...If you charge 5 star prices, it’s a good idea to provide 5 star service... If you’re an adult looking for luxury at £500 a night and perhaps £200-300 for dinner for 2 adults and a child, then maybe try Gleneagles, they might show you how it’s done... Beyond disappointed, it’s verging on criminal...

...Service is not to the standard of a premium resort which you are paying for... Due to this, I asked at reception if my mother and I could have a coffee whilst waiting for our party the last morning we were there, to be told we would need to pay for it, even though the staff member acknowledged we had reported the machine to her the day before… Little details such as this should not be overlooked at a resort which claims the status of luxury... To top it off, a lot of my weekend was spent trying to speak to a staff member who could help me with the fact my credit card had been over charged via a pending transaction... Whilst we have, a week later, been contacted by management and remunerated, this again left the stay much to be desired... Food in the Kittocks bar is overpriced and overcooked...

...Food is overpriced but professionally made... However, I had a problem at the check out, when I was given a final bill including charges for the multiple alcoholic drinks we never consumed... The day before we were sitting at the bar having two beers and tea for the total amount of £17... However, we were charged £154 for that visit... When I asked for a help the bar staff, Fiona tried her best to help... I was charged for the drinks we never had, and instead of apologies, I had to make a further inquiry via email... It’s now 3 days passed with no answer, no apologies, and no return of the amount of money we were charged for somebody else’s drinks... Be careful and better pay your bill immediately to avoid such issues!...

Service at the hotel is generally appreciated with staff being friendly, helpful and professional. However, there are instances of poor service, especially in restaurants and room service.

...Attractive, cosy (despite being very big), friendly, helpful staff, big comfy beds, big bathrooms and a great pool and spa. Initial impressions are great, with door staff immediately reacting, opening doors, helping with luggage etc... You definitely need a car though as the minibus only takes 8 and runs on the hour until 6pm only... Then the room wasn't serviced despite us being out all day and returning after 7pm... No answer from reception and after half an hour of trying we had to go down stairs to try and raise some help to do the basics... And there was a mix up on rooms on arrival so had to relocate and then no rollaway bed despite checking in advance (and when we got to the hotel an hour earlier)... So that was another wait whilst it was sorted... My takeaway is if you are selling yourself as a five star hotel you have to get these kind of things right...

...The spa was amazing, as usual, and we both enjoyed the treatments (a North Sea hot stone massage and a deep muscle massage) - they were excellent and we felt totally relaxed afterwards. We had drinks and dinner in Kittocks on the Friday night, which was good... I heard one of the staff say that on a Sunday morning, no one goes for breakfast at 9am, but at 10am, 300 people descend!... Special thanks to the member of staff who saved my life with an iPhone charger after I forgot to pack mine (unfortunately I didn’t get his name)...

...A warm and friendly welcome from Ollie on arrival set the tone... We dined in Kittocks Den, the staff were very professional and attentive and the food was delicious... Glen served us in the Zephyr Bar and was able to provide us with some of its history which was a nice touch... The Spa too lived up to our expectations, thank you Karolina for a great facial... Would certainly recommend this hotel, the staff go above and beyond to make it a truly memorable experience...

...Service is not to the standard of a premium resort which you are paying for... Nespresso machine in one room didn’t work- reported this and more than 24 hours later nothing... This included waiting for a manager to phone me during a day out to St Andrews... However staff in the bar were helpful and their mixology is excellent... The pool facilities are well maintained and we enjoyed spa treatments...

...Service is hugely disappointing though. Over £300 a night and our room wasn't serviced one day... After bringing it to the attention of reception 1 of our 2 rooms was serviced but to such a poor standard... You can wait forever to be offered a drink... Good service and fabulous selection of food... Overall, our 5 nights cost our family in excess of £3000 and we don't feel the service comes anywhere close to justifying the prices...

We visited this hotel for the first time and were pleasantly surprised with friendly staff, excellent facilities for children, and good breakfast... The staff at the Cucina restaurant was amazing!... Thank you for the good experience and service... However, we were charged £154 for that visit... When I asked for a help the bar staff, Fiona tried her best to help... She was really great staying calm and continuing to help me to resolve the issue regardless this challenging experience... Even more, he asked the “surname of the customer” over the phone, and my non-British name did not sound good enough for the manager to be enthusiastic to serve their customer to the high standard as it is expected at the hotel of this level... Thank you very much for such a “great service”!... Thank you to all staff making our stay a really joy able experience, especially for our children...

It was an amazing 2 nights stay at Fairmont St Andrews celebrating Valentine’s Day and our Anniversary!... The service we received from every staff was excellent (except for the waiting time for our food and dessert at their restaurant, La Cucina)... Also the reception staff should know that there’s a Tesla charger within the grounds which Google maps indicated but were advised by them that there isn’t... They kindly offered us a shuttle service to drop and pick us up but we had to explore St Andrews so we charged our car in town and only sighted the Tesla charging point on the day we checked out as we walked around the golf course...

We arrived for afternoon tea which was amazing!!... We emailed earlier in the week with specific dietary requirements and this was no problem... We even got to take a selection of our favourite cakes to take home which was a lovely touch... We checked in at 4 and although the reception was busy we were checked in by courteous and friendly staff... Our room was amazing - comfy bed and the room was spotless... The breakfast was wonderful with lots of choice and attentive staff...

...Advised on check in that our room was not ready, no offer to store our bags in the meantime. Went over to the bar where it took 30 minutes to be served after seating, not for lack of staff as there was at least 6 servers walking about or chatting... After we were served 3 servers came to ask if we needed anything within 5 minutes of our drinks, we were then left for 40 minutes... My partner then received the call for our room, an hour and a half later... Our dinner reservation was confirmed at this time... The room was of its usual high standard although no mini bar, phoned reception to be told it isn’t done anymore so forwarded to room service to order drinks which obviously took some time to arrive... Went to dinner at La Cucina - reservation for 8pm that was confirmed at check in... Host had no evidence of our booking and was incredibly unhelpful, left to stand for 10 minutes whilst she looked for a table in a half empty restaurant which only emptied more as we were there... This i wish I had taken a picture of - the pork I was served for my second course had a black patch, I am very sure this was in fact a mould patch and was obviously extremely upset, asked the waitress to help with this, she returned about 90 seconds later putting the plate in front of me once more to say the chef had said the method in which it was cooked makes it this way... We got out as soon as possible Back in our room by 9.15pm and decided I would order room service as it was advertised on the tv and website that the kitchen was open until 11pm... Only helpful or friendly person we encountered during our stay was the young man who served us the room service... He brought us a couple of pieces of banana loaf, a chocolate mousse and the soft drinks we ordered... Thé breakfast in the morning was of it’s usual very high standard it seemed they were sorely lacking in staff which was a stark contrast to the day before... On checkout we raised all of our concerns to the receptionist who was very quick to let us know she’d “be in touch”, since then the communication has been sparse and it is very clear our business has not and was never valued... Unfortunately we don’t think we can return as this experience has made me so upset, the service and quality of stay was so unacceptable...

...However now there is very long service times - which can be challenging if you have a young family... The prices in the restaurant near the bar seem quite high also given the slow servcie (10% gratituty is added to your bill automatically as a parting gift from the hotel)...

...We checked in on the 24th to be treated by a lovely present in our room. We had booked our accommodation and Christmas dinner separately (not booked the Christmas package directly with the Fairmont) so the gift in our room was a pleasant surprise... Christmas morning came and we were greeted by Santas footprints next to the fireplace on our way out for a walk and had an excellent breakfast... We paid £95 each for our dinner and to say we were disappointed is an understatement... The starters and desserts were fine as they were served buffet style, and tbh this suited us as we both aren’t keen on traditional Christmas starters so allowed us to pick as we chose... We did speak to the Director of Food who listened to our concerns and was so nice about it all... He took 50% off our bill and we couldn’t fault his reaction to it...

My family & In-laws stayed over Christmas and it was a very lovely experience... We booked for 3 nights and were given an upgraded room which was stunning and added a special touch as it had a Christmas tree in the room which the children loved... I did have some issues at check-in but were resolved very quickly and to my satisfaction by the Reservations Manager, Jane(who was very professional throughout)... Service was excellent from all who served us at the Fairmont, we dined at Kittocks Den & La Cucina and the Kittocks Den staff, in particular, were extremely friendly and helpful... They also have the best Santa for the children...

On return to our rooms after a lovely dinner in Kittock’s Den, we were very touched to find gifts from Ewan at the front office- a very personal gesture... Again staff on hand to assist with every aspect... We arrived on the 20th and I told the hotel, my wife was disabled so they put us in the furthest away room on the 3rd floor... We ordered breakfast for 10 am in our room this never happened... They overcharged by £50 but that was eventually resolved... I asked for a refund for our breakfast not being delivered but they said the package included breakfast whether you had it or not, so breakfast is free at the Fairmount St Andrews... This hotel does not give a 5-star service...

Thank you to chef for the vegan selection... The Spa ladies were all very nice and we really enjoyed the treatments and the steam room... ...When we ordered our drinks at the bar my wife asked if we could sit downstairs in the lounge area by the the window and the barman said yes. That was was it, I had to carry the drinks down the stairs to our table... We booked dinner for 7.00pm and as usual we arrived bang on time... A very pleasant young girl, 16 she told us, took our order right away, two glasses of wine , two mains and two sides and we waited... I next saw the girl at 7.55pm when she and the maitre d came into sight having a conversation and I caught her eye and mouthed “where is our wine”?... At which point she ran off and brought our wine... When she brought it, by now after 8.00pm, I asked about our food and she was surprised that we didn’t have it yet... We’d been sitting over an hour, just had our wine brought and no sign of food!... It was simply the worst experience we’ve ever had in any restaurant anywhere, ever...

...We were so pleased to arrive and be warmly greeted and shown to a spacious, light-filled room that looked out over the clubhouse and ocean. Comfy bed and solid housekeeping service!... The bell staff, front desk and bar staff were all top-notch... She was fun, professional and offered great tips for making the most of our trip... Even a 2nd round of tea (it was ice cold by the time they checked back), seemed to be a huge imposition to them... While the breakfast food items were very tasty and a huge variety, again we had to beg just to get a cup of coffee, let alone refills or any other type of service... We also had dinner at La Cucina on the property... Instead we opted for Rogue in St. Andrews, which by the way, was outstanding all around...

...If you charge 5 star prices, it’s a good idea to provide 5 star service... You will wait forever to be served, drinks, food, bills, regardless of location the standard is always the same, slightly haphazard and a bit shambolic... My 6 year old son loves the place, so if you’re in the space for a kid friendly hotel, try here or maybe go to center parcs... If you’re an adult looking for luxury at £500 a night and perhaps £200-300 for dinner for 2 adults and a child, then maybe try Gleneagles, they might show you how it’s done...

The Hotel and Spa Resort is gorgeous not just for its Instagram worthy foyer and various nooks and corners but also its spacious hotel room and bathroom... Infact, we enjoyed the ambience and food more at their bar, Kittocks Den - Never thought I would ever say this about bar food... This hotel is nice, but it definitely is not a 5 star hotel... We used the spa and had treatments, as well as afternoon tea and breakfasts etc... These rooms don’t come with a bath tub even though the hotel website says every room has a bath... The next thing was that we tried to order room service, as per the website and as per instructions on the TV in the room... So we called the number on the phone that takes you direct to the room service person, only to be told they don’t do room service... The spa facilities were ok. Sauna, steam room, pool and jacuzzi... We maybe picked the wrong time of year but the spa was overrun with kids... Like running around and bombing into into the pool and jumping around everywhere... There was a divider in the pool which I assume was for families with kids and adults to keep separate, but it was ignored... I would say at times it felt more like a leisure centre than a spa... Breakfast was great, normal fry up stuff, cold things, an omlette station and pancakes too...

I stayed at the Fairmont St Andrews on the 6th of December, my stay was wonderful. Florian from the concierge team was amazing in helping me with my luggage to the room (to my surprise there was a lovely bottle prosecco and chocolates waiting for me from the front desk team) , Sarah from the reception team was fantastic and very chatty when going through the check in process. When I entered the beautiful sea view room, I was stunned by how perfect the cleanliness was! The bathroom cleanliness, the beds and the room cleanliness was top notch. The room came with amenities which were useful as well! The rainfall shower was very clean to note also. A big thanks to the housekeeping staff! I walked through the pristine public areas to go to my dinner in La Cucina which I was very impressed with and was even welcomed with a glass of prosecco which my elderly grandmother loved! All in all the staff, service and cleanliness were very 5 star and I will definitely be back!

We started our trip off with luxury transport from the airport with Kevin the transport coordinator! The property has stunning views of the sea, just minutes from the city centre. The rooms were spacious, clean & stocked with as many amenities as you could think of. The bathroom was sparkling, and very spacious. We also received a lovely upgrade from Aine. The breakfast was delicious stocked with anything you could think of. Kayleigh from reception was great and took lots of photos of the family which I know needs a lot of patience. Phil the shuttle driver was excellent, very friendly and attentive. It makes all the difference! We enjoyed a tasty meal in La Cucina. Thank you so much to all at Fairmont St. Andrews!

We attended the international Christmas Brunch today, with family and friends. The food was delicious and the chefs stations were fabulous however table service was chaotic. The staff did not appear to know how to take a drinks order… or to serve it to people seated at the table. Also the payment system broke down and no one received a receipt which is very disappointing. It such a shame when poor service spoils the experience . Certainly not 5 star

I stayed at The Fairmont St Andrews with a friend in November and we did enjoy ourselves however there are some aspects of the hotel that really need improved. Check-in was slow we were waiting to get checked in for 30 minutes just stood in a queue, we then got checked in by the lovely lady Kayleigh on desk however it was nearer 5pm. Prior to this we both had treatments in the spa which we were really looking forward to however I left my treatment disappointed as it just didn’t live up to expectations the therapist I had Sinead was wearing a watch whilst giving me my massage and facial and I could feel it digging into me. After I asked her about products and she didn’t seem to know enough or be able to answer my questions. We went to the pool area and that was nice then we left the spa and I was told about the 10% service charge and I explained to the receptionist Grace about my experience and she dealt with it so efficiently and spent a good part of half an hour thoroughly talking to me about the spa products and it was obvious Grace was so much more knowledgeable than my therapist was which was extremely surprising, I left extremely happy after my conversation at spa reception and was so grateful for the time she spent with me. We dined at Kittocks bar and I’ve never had such slow service in a regular bar/restaurant let alone a 5 star establishment we had to seat ourselves then wait 30 minutes to be served and then another 40 minutes on drinks and a further hour for the food. It was absolutely shocking and the staff didn’t have any sense of urgency whatsoever!! All in all we had a nice time but it does need to higher their standards for being 5 star. A big shout out to Kayleigh at reception and Grace at the spa who made my stay special.

I was here for a conference over 2 days and must say that I was disappointed. The room I stayed in was fine (although very warm), but the food here is pretty awful. I realise that catering for such a large group of people must be difficult, but the Fairmont has had plenty of practice, so should have managed to get this right. Limp salads, tasteless veg, underdone risotto etc. does not make for a great experience. The coffee provided throughout the conference was undrinkable it was so bad. If I attend again next year, I will be tempted to nip into St Andrews for a decent meal and coffee. The open bar at the conference was very understaffed and some (not all) were surly teenagers who clearly did not want to be there. However, the staff who were trying to navigate with trays of drinks did a good job and were friendly. The other conference facilities such as meeting room and space were fine and fit for purpose.

We came back to The Fairmont on assurances that things had improved after a bad stay last year. We were very grateful to receive an upgrade before arrival and had a good experience at check in. On arrival to our room we found a bottle of wine and open bottle of milk brought and left by previous guests in the mini bar, several items were also missing and something had been spilt. It was obvious it had not been checked. After my fiance went to report this it took one person coming to 'check' the issue and 3 visits from another person to resolve this. Once this was resolved I felt happy to unpack. when doing so and opening the wardrobe I found worn underwear of a previous guest, not hidden or difficult to see, again very clear that things had not been cleaned properly. By this point we were both so upset and considered going home. My fiance was able to speak to reception again and we were given a further upgrade along with a string of apologies. Following this the service we received was exemplary, the bar staff in particular provided the service that has kept us coming back for 5 years. Jane the rooms manager met us more than once and has been a credit. We have left feeling quite confused as to whether or not we'll return for our wedding accommodation as planned. Do you need to experience the bad side to get the good here now?

Lovely welcome, checked in an hour or so early with no problems. Stayed in partial sea view room with two double beds. Large room, very comfortable, amazing bathroom, nice view over the sea. Breakfast was delicious. Free shuttle to St Andrews was great. Disappointed on the second day refresh. Long saga short, the room wasn’t refreshed, it took multiple attempts to get it refreshed, and even then it was incomplete (no refresh of water, milk, coffee pods etc). On request to have these refreshed, it took two hours to get all the items. Have no idea what is happening at reception / concierge desk but it spoiled the trip due to wasting our time that I wouldn’t recommend this to my friends and family. Public areas look a bit tired, with lots of scuffed wooden furniture and very dirty/ mouldy showers in the pool area.

A nice weekend break. I do agree with previous reviews that it may need a little freshen up and believe for the expensive room rates you could get more for your money elsewhere. If charging high end prices you expect a bit more. La Cucina restaurant was very nice, worth going to.

Staff was friendly, food was good and the location was nice, though too far out of town to make restaurants accessible. However, the place looks worn- stains on furniture, carpeting, scratches on flooring, sticky deterioration of finishes in the rooms. We haven't spent time in many "5 star" hotels, but this is definitely not in the same category as "5 star" Balmoral, Edinburgh and "5 star" Royal Horseguards, London
