We love Fairmont hotels. They offer excellent rooms with staff who are almost unfailingly engaging and interesting. This hotel is good but inconsistent. The rooms are lovely, as befits Fairmont. And a shout-out to Allison in housekeeping who made our stay - and particularly that for our youngest daughter - extra special. There’s a lovely pool and spa and Covid-restricted numbers allowed in, which is good. Spa and main Reception staff were pleasant but remote. Dining staff were unfailingly friendly and did their best with some dreadful kitchen fare, as the main problem at this hotel is the food. Breakfast is in the cavernous main atrium (think food court in an average shopping mall for its lack of atmosphere). It’s cold, unwelcoming and as inviting as a motorway service station. It’s offer is really not up to scratch and it is under-staffed. For this type of hotel you’d expect some a la Carte options at breakfast but there were none and the buffet was standard chain hotel fare. However, at least this was edible: our dinner at Kittock’s Den wasn’t. Food was rubbery and cold and they’d even run out of fish. Servers were lovely and did their best but someone needs to get a grip on the kitchen. La Cucina is better - a fairly decent Italian restaurant with helpful friendly staff and warning tasty food. But at night the whole hotel public areas suffer from being so dimly lit (and the walls are all painted dark colours) to make it feel like being in a bad nightclub. And I think - really average dining apart - that’s my main criticism: despite lovely rooms, this hotel lacks soul.

Excellent service from all staff, which was a slight improvement from some staff cover covid challenges on my previous stay. I had requested early check in for 2:30 and was called at 1:45 to advise the room was ready. On check-in I was lucky to get a 2 category upgrade from a Junior Suite to Deluxe King with Sea View. (Likely due to Accor loyalty Gold Status). Service from staff is always friendly, personable and attentive. Due to low occupancy the Kittocks Den was not serving food on weekday evenings and was called in advance to let me know. Always a favourite hotel, and the staff make it so.

One of the best selections of teas I have seen anywhere in the world (save maybe a shop/restaurant in Canterbury). Everything from English breakfast to Silver Needle and flowering bundles. The sandwiches are very fresh with contemporary fillings based on the season. Scrambled eggs with truffle oil top with good quality caviar is a nice indulgence. A good selection of cakes to meet all tastes inspired by The Ritz. I would say it compares well with the Savoy and Goring in London. A glass of Prosecco just adds that extra lightness to what could have been a heavy meal but isn't. Attentive staff were very helpful and courteous. We will definitely be visiting again soon <3

I spent 2 days at this hotel with my sister who was celebrating her 70th birthday. Staff went out off their way to make this celebration special. The room was lovely clean and spacious. Afternoon tea was delicious and all of our meals were well presented and delious. The Kittocks restuarant was lovely, staff great. Breakfast had a great selection, loved tge pancakes and selection of breads. Italian restaurant was our favourite, huge prawns delicious. We both enjoyed our massage, so relaxing, pool, sauna and steam room great. The whole hotel clean, plenty gel stations and a special mention to Lewis in the Italian restaurant , the reason for this was that he came down to your kevel whilst you were seated to speak to you, as a lipreading tutor it was excellent to see this making communication easier with mask wearing. A huge thanks to all the staff
