It is the only hostel in town and this is quite clear from the not good service you receive. Competition often helps. Rooms were cold. You have to pay 1 pound more if you pay by card and this is not stated in booking.com or hostelworld.com. The kitchen has opening times and sometimes they also arrive late to open it...

We had no choice but to stay here, the St. Andrews Tourist Hostel being the only youth Hostel in town. The place is morose, gloomy, and the bathrooms and bedrooms are dirty. The bedrooms are crowded (we were 10 sleeping in a 15 square metres bedroom). The staff was ok. The positive point being : spending the night here is...

I booked on line and was asked what time I would like to book in. I selected 1-2 as I had plans in St Andrews on Saturday 26th of November. I got there in plenty time only to fine I couldn't book until 5pm which was no good for my plans. A resident let me into the hall and it...

This is a hostel, not a B&B or hotel. It is basic. Breakfast is available, but good only for those with a very sweet tooth. All toilets, showers and other areas are unisex, including dormitories. Bring your own towel & toiletries. Nothing is provided. Not sure how often bedding is changed.

The overall scruffiness of the place is understandable given the price. However, the hostel owners seem to consider hot water to be a luxury which is only available between 5 to 10 am and pm. Despite this some showers don't have hot water even during these hours.

This hostel is quite basic, we stayed in a 8 beds room. It's quite clean, but one of the facilities had no hot water and there were just 2 showers with hot water. The common kitchen is closed by night and they open it at 8 am, which means that you can hardly cook yourself a proper breakfast before 8....

Aceptable Acceptable Good hostel if you are not very demanding. It is well located. The rooms are not especially large, but the worst is that there are no lockers to store luggage. The public rooms are fine. It is recommended for one or two nights hostel.

Came here for three days at the end of August while doing a course at the University. It's by a mile the cheapest place to stay in St Andrews, and in many ways a typical hostel in the top two floors of a huge Victorian townhouse. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and happily recommended excellent restaurants and gave...

I stayed here three nights and the hostel served its purpose for a cheap place to crash in a pretty town, and escape the Edinburgh Fringe Fest weekend prices. The staff are great and really make the place. There's a kitchen, a lounge with a TV either playing movies or music (like Neil Young, Simon and Garfunkel - props for...

Failed on all ends except location, price and ... front desk person was helpful...other than that ... St. Andrews is great...lovely town but people who said they stay here after golf are slightly delusional. No one would stay given an option. If you had $ to golf here, find a hotel. I am very very used to hostels...have been all...
