I love watching the big golf majors but have no time for the day to day snobbery and pretentiousness the surround golf clubs. But it was lovely to wander round the old course and walk across the famous bridge. As the course was being used we were being as careful as possible and making sure we didn’t walk where we were supposed to, except one area that wasn’t sign-posted for us not to walk, only to be met by an irate steward nearly giving him self a heart attack getting us to move. His behaviour was unnecessary and if the public is allowed to wander round this course maybe some clear signposts and better behaved stewards would make it more welcoming.

We had afternoon tea at the old course hotel as a treat. Though not cheap you do get what you pay for it was a lovely experience they were happy to modify our afternoon tea to compensate for picky children. The staff were lovely and the facilities were amazing. We will return again.

Was here yesterday as the hotel very kindly honoured a booking I made with a voucher in March which was cancelled due to lockdown. Excellent staff and customers safety was a priority. Our room looked onto the golf course and was breathtaking! Breakfast in the room was also excellent and the room was comfy and clean. Only slight disappointment was the braised beef I had for dinner was over 50% fat with little actual meat and quite dry. Cheeseboard however was fab.

We had a lovely overnight stay here albeit at the rear of the hotel. The staff were attentive and there were lots of lovely touches which made our stay more memorable. We had dinner in the Sands Restaurant (the upstairs restaurant was closed probably due to the coronavirus). The meal was excellent as were the surroundings. Breakfast was an absolute joy overlooking the golf course. So relaxing. The buffet breakfast was faultless. Will definitely be back again. (I didn't know there was a free swimming pool attached to the Gym and I agree with a previous reviewer this should have been pointed out.

My hen do was cancelled because of the coronavirus travel restrictions - last minute we booked a trip to St Andrews, and from the moment we arrived at the Old Course Hotel the staff were completely brilliant. This review is a special thanks to bartender Jordan who went above and beyond for us, not only making the best martinis our group has ever had but also helping us choose some brilliant cigars and making us his own signature cocktail. It’s such a small thing but the extra attention and kindness he showed us made the evening extra special - we didn’t miss Vegas at all. Thank you Jordan for being so wonderful and thanks to the hotel - we’ll be back!!!
