First the good news: the Marine and Lawn group have done a very impressive job of reviving Rusacks, which had fallen into real decrepitude under its former owners. Public areas are very impressive, welcoming and comfortable. Excellent breakfast (could not eat dinner in the fancy restaurant as it’s a very busy week). Staff uniformly friendly, warm, helpful and professionals. But, in renovating the old part of the building, M&L were faced with very old-fashioned, often very small rooms, and had to work with what they had. We paid over the odds for a room with a view of the 18th hole of the Old Course, and the views were, as promised, to die for. But the room itself is in a garret - on the fourth floor but only accessible via a very narrow, steep stairway from the 3rd. Room is tiny: bathroom and closet doors cannot be opened at the same time and the tiny closet only has room for about five hangars. So, by all means come, because the place is lovely. But try to be careful about what room you book; probably better to favour the new wing. And, a tip to management: if you set aside a very nice quiet space (The Gallery) where guests can be comfy while, for example, waiting until nearly 4pm for their rooms to be serviced, don’t gather 3 members of your management team (including the GM?) for a Zoom call in that “quiet” space, apparently with a software vendor explaining a new system for tracking and managing staff. Good on you if it gets rooms cleaned in a timely way, but surely there is some other place for you to do the hotel’s business.

Starting with the basics: the room (a double double) is new, big, very clean, very comfortable and the decor is stunning. Web site photos are spot on except the room is bigger than it looks on the web. Everyone we encountered working here is friendly and helpful. We ate in the pub and the food was good. The view of the 18th hole from the roof lounge is impressive. The location is great, and they have a parking garage. Which leads me to the standout aspect of the stay. ...On the first night we get a knock on the door. Wife answers while I am in the bathroom and says “no” to someone. I ask, what did they want. Oh, somebody with an MG has a problem in the garage. "WHAT” I say, we have an MG. In her defense our MG SUV rental was hardly the little British sports car you could get in the states in the 70s. We had just arrived from the states, no sleep on the plane, in a foreign country, finally escaping the covid lockdown, etc. I did not want to spend my first day on vacation dealing with a flat tire! But no problem, I am at Rusacks. Between the people behind the desk, the night manager, and the valets the flat was fixed by check out with literally no effort on my part other than uttering “Avis”. We stayed in 5 other higher end hotels on this trip. They all had very good service. But would this happen anywhere else, I do not know. We loved this hotel. It’s clearly the perfect place to start a Scotland tour.

Rusacks was an amazing hotel with five star decor and service with an unbeatable location right off the 18th hole. The prices are expensive but compared to the other hotels in the area you get so much more with the service and overall facilities. We actually were booked in another hotel that was half the price of Rusacks (But still not a cheap place) and it was literally falling apart around us. When we couldn't fall asleep on the other places flat mattress with springs sticking out, we called up Rusacks to see if they had vacancy. They had 2 rooms left and helped us pick the right one for our needs. We booked and checked in at 9PM, the staff was so helpful as we made this late night decision to change hotels. We're so glad we moved hotels. If you can fit it into your budget its worth every penny.

We just returned from a wonderful trip staying at Rusacks. Our son goes to University in St. Andrews and it is our preferred place to stay. The lovely breakfast each morning that is included starts the day off perfectly. The front desk staff is top notch. I hit a hee sting during our stay and they immediately got a bag of ice to help the pain. The rockstar of the hotel is Ian Cameron. He is more like family than evening concierge. If there is anything you need, no request too small or large, he handles it in the kindest most professional way. We travel quite a bit to Europe and UK and he is truly one of best we have ever encountered. His care makes you want to stay at Rusacks and only Rusacks when visiting St. Andrews. We are grateful to have crossed paths with Ian and will miss seeing him when our son graduates.

The renovation of this hotel is stunning! We have been coming to St Andrews for the past 7 years at various times each year and have stayed at many different hotels. The stylish decor, stunning views, location, extremely kind staff and 3 fabulous restaurants make the Rusacks the absolute best place to stay in St Andrews - hands down!

Can’t beat the new Rusacks for quality, ambience, staff and location. 18 bar and restaurant offers stunning view and setting…best steak in town. Love the breakfast offering and setting in the Bridge. Only thing I missed was spa service (massage is nice with daily golf) Rooms were quiet and comfortable.

With the new wing added on to Rusacks it has become the top place to stay in St. Andrews. All the rooms have been redone in a first class manner. If you want the best of the property book a room overlooking the 18th hole at The Old Course as there is no better place to look over the course and out to the water. The food and beverage is equally as good with three options from a casual pub, to the main floor restaurant, and then 18, their top floor location with the best view of The Old Course and water you will find. The staff is exceedingly friendly and helpful and there is nothing like waling out the door onto the street overlooking the course.

We had a wonderful stay Right on the 18th fairway of The Old Course. A great location from which to explore St. Andrews. The hotel is a classic which was just recently updated to maintain the original look and feel, while modernizing the bathroom.
