This hotel has an excellent location, not far from the station and near shops and the castle. Breakfast was very good, staff very attentive. Room was okay, the bed was comfy but some areas needed a lick of paint. The short blind at the window was rather unusual. There was a strange smell near the lift.

We stayed overnight at this hotel last weekend. The staff were friendly and approachable and the location perfect for the shops, market and castle. We stayed in room 12 (castle view) which was a little noisy at night due to the ill fitting window but didn't really disturb us. The hotel itself was OK but not amazing - we ate...

This hotel is a perfect location for anyone visiting Edinburgh. It's right in the heart of Princes Street looking over at the castle and the gardens. Santa's Christmas market is just across the street. The room was huge with plenty room for the 3 of us. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The picture is the view from the...

Had one night in this hotel and found it to be ok but probably wouldn't stay again as we didn't have a good nights sleep. Room was very small for a double, decor very tired looking and very hot, and although it is handy as it's on Prince street it was very noisy at night. Was pleased only a short...

This was our first stop on our Scotland tour and what a nice place to land and get ourselves sorted to a whopping 8 hour time change. The hotel is lovely and even has a lift so you don't need to worry about repacking an overnight bag to carry up stairs. The location couldn't be more handy and the views...

Perfect location right in the centre, opposite the castle. Interesting old building with great architecture. Very friendly and helpful front desk reception with the facility to leave your luggage before and after check out. Front suite room and ensuite were both spacious with a generous welcome tray with glass bottled water, biscuits and various teas. Beautiful large room with huge...

This is a really old hotel, I mean hundreds of years old. It does have an elevator to the 4th floor, we were on the 5th and walked up the rest of the way. The view out of the window looked something out of a Dicken's novel. The view from the Bar and Restaurant was absolutely amazing of the Castle....

To celebrate a Big birthday my family took me for afternoon tea here. It was lovely. Our tea was served in The Observatory Restaurant that has the most wonderful vista of Princes Street and the Castle. It was 3.30 on a Thursday and we had the restaurant to ourselves which meant we had the best table in the place. If...

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
