Once again, a warm reception from the owners who are real charming characters and very Scottish. There is a very relaxed atmosphere in the house, yet it is quiet and peaceful. The location is perfect for a short walk into town or straight to the castle. The rooms are really clean and the beds are super comfy... just as they... More

There's no missing Cluaran House - the big yellow terraced location with bright blue steps outlining a stained glass effect thistle immediately screams "accommodation with artistic style". The inside is less extreme however, and boasts a more relaxed, country style theme with undeniably Scottish outlines. We (that’s me and the dog) were initially greeted by the very friendly resident Lhasa... More

I stayed at Cluaran House previously and was happy as detailed in my review. One year on, having decided to go back to Edinburgh with my wife for 2/3 days, I decided to book a two night stay there again. The only room left for my dates was the big family room which could be occupied by two adults for... More

Beautiful, renovated home with 20 foot ceilings, in a charming, quiet area of Edinburgh. The house is tastefully decorated and very inviting. Our hosts, Noreen and Ali were warm, helpful and made the best Scottish breakfast! Loved our stay!

We stayed for 2 nights and it was a nice stay. The owners are very friendly and the breakfast was good with cereal, fruits, bread (slices and croissants), Nutella!, a variety of jams and full English/Scottish breakfast for those that prefer it. Very comfortable beds and Molton Brown hand wash! Floors in the rooms could be cleaner (better vacuumed). Would... More

Interesting B&B, arty, characterful, lots to look at. Pleasant hosts. Good breakfasts - wholesome and hearty, caters for veges. Hosts helpful with a late arrival. Rooms have a few quirks of an older property, some bathroom facilities a bit small. Nice lounge for residents use, some wifi. Situated in good area 15 mins walk thro parks to city, or plenty... Great little B&B. I love the 20ft ceilings! The decor is antique and funky.. Beautiful little ensure in the room I stayed in. The owners go above and beyond. Helped me send out my Laundry. Convenient location.

My husband and I stayed here first week of September. We enjoyed it. The bed linens were luxurious and comfortable, the rooms were cheerful, and the breakfasts perfect for tourist days of walking. Noreen and Ali are very nice to chat with, and some of Ali's skilled paintings hang in the house. This B&B is located near the Bruntsfield Links,... More

I stayed in Cluaran House in mid-August, 2015. Noreen and her staff could not do enough for their guests! Everything was wonderful! I had emailed a few days prior to arrival to say I might be in town a bit early and wished to drop my case at mid day before going to see the sights. The staff greeted me... More

It is a cute and cozy house. The room I have is not large, but it has everything I need. The location is convenient--walking across the parks to the royal miles, and taking the buses to the royal garden as well as the west end galleries. The breakfast is so beautiful. I have tried both traditional and vegetarian ones. Both... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a sophisticated 4-star guesthouse set in a period building dating from the 1860s now fully restored with original period features and our own bespoke interior style. We are located in the famous Bruntsfield Links area of Edinburgh, next to parkland and within close walking distance to the city centre, Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and Edinburgh International Conference Centre. All our bedrooms are individually decorated in harmonious colours chosen to compliment the original period Victorian fixtures (the house dates from the late 1860s). All rooms are ensuite and have kingsize beds apart from the single which has its own private bathroom and a three quarter Victorian antique bed. In addition, all rooms are individually decorated and have free Wi-fi; flat-screen TVs; i-pod docking stations; alarm clocks; tea/coffee making facilities and an eclectic mini library to browse. Many original features have been restored to something of their former glory e.g. the stunning stained glass panel of our entrance door and sanded original floorboards. Cornices, wooden shutters and much of the original flooring have all been rejuvenated giving a fascinating glimpse into the skilled craftsmanship of the period. Tea and coffee facilities; flat screen TVs; free Wi-Fi; and ipod docking stations are all available.Cluaran House has been the location of 4 film shoots and 1 international fashion shoot. ... more   less
