I stayed with my family for a week in the guest house opposite the main building. We were looking forward to an authentic Scottish accommodation. The location was perfect, close to the center, yet quiet. The reception was very cold and impersonal. We had 3 rooms booked which were handed over to us in the fast passage. The rooms were... More

Stayed here 3 days in July. The place is in a reasonable location, not too far from center. its in a reasonable state of repair. Our room (No15) was on the back, above the conservatory. It was tiny for a double no space to move. The shower was incredibly small too! Our room was filled with the smell of frying... More

I was booked into this B&B by work for an overnight stay in Edinburgh at £80.00 bed and breakfast. Now when I eventually made it to the venue I was impressed, the outside of this Edwardian terraced property looked great. It is only a short walk along terrace to the Kings Theatre, artisan stores and some great eateries. From this... More

Arrived at the guest house only to be told we were staying across the road in the annex which wasn't mentioned when booking. The rooms were noisy, doors constantly slamming and if you are in room 24, you can hear the person in the next room on the toilet, as the ensuite is built into this room. Arrived at breakfast... We stayed at this B&B for 3 nights and I can honestly say that it is the worst experience of my life. On arrival we were greeted by one of the hosts who was not helpful at all. He gave us a set of keys and told us to cross the road to another building called bowmore and our room... More

We stayed in Edinburgh for 2 nights for a friend's wedding. Reading the reviews of this B&B just before our stay I was a bit worried but it was actually fine. Yes the rooms are small (double bed in corner with less than 1 metre at the side) and a bit scruffy but it was clean and perfectly functional. We... More

When we saw the set of pictures at booking.com we liked it very much and were full of expectations.... The reality was a bit different. We were given a double bed room at the near Bowmore building. Yes, the room was renovated, but quite small, no colourful paintings, a bit grey but still enough for few days overnight stay. The... More

Small room had everything we required for a one night sleepover. Basic but functional. Breakfast was good, staff offering more toast if needed. Staff were also available to answer queries, very helpful.

We were greeted nicely and my case was carried up the 40 stairs. Shown our room which was a decent size. Then we looked at the 'en suite' tiny shower cubicle and you had to sit sideways on the loo or your knees jammed up against the wall and the seat kept coming loose. My friend took her shoes off... I will say with complete honesty that we never made it to this hotel. We had a deathly sick family member and we couldn't make the trip, therefore we had to cancel going to Scotland. We had booked the room through booking.com, where it states, "Most rooms no cancelation fees". haha- MOST. Well, not this one. They refused to cancel... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
