Stayed in this hotel from the 5th until the 7th of Oct. for a relaxing getaway to celebrate a birthday. Firstly when we arrived there was building works happening (which we were not notified about), I was assured that this was only happening Mon to Fri and would not impact on our stay. On Sat morning (08.20) drilling and hammering....

Having both stayed at this hotel and also worked as a porter for a short time there, I can say ten hill place is quite a pleasant stay for a trip to Edinburgh. It caters largely to conferences and groups who have business in or around the University of Edinburgh which is nearby, but it also has rooms available for...

The staff were very helpful and were able to make good restaurant recommendations. The price was reasonable but breakfast was extra and was not cooked to order. There was no gym or pool at this 4 star hotel which I would have expected. The fire alarm went off in the morning and we were in the road for 30 mins,...

Booked to stay here Saturday night and paid £146 for a room for 2 (generally out of my price range, but hubby's birthday so special treat). I expected to collapse into luxury, mmmm first room, very badly stained carpet, hair in bath drain, scuzzy black n brown crap round bath tiles, 4 weeks worth of crumbs, dead skin and hair...

Booked to stay here for a 2 night stay in Edinburgh, on arrival we were pleased with out room (despite kind of see-through bathroom door?! ) as it was clean and nicely presented. Enjoyed our stay but was spoilt a bit by 2 fire alarms going off at 10pm at night and the other at 8 am in the morning...

Stayed at Ten Hill Place Hotel for one night whilst attending Edinburgh University Open Day Sept 2012. Hotel is really nice. Fantastic location re: university as was just 5 minutes walk from there. In side street about 10 minutes walk to Princes street, which is the main shopping street in Edinburgh. Location is excellent for visiting kids at the uni....

This is the second time we have stayed here and it's perfectly acceptable, with a good location. Don't expect a parking space as the car park is small and often full. We managed to park on an adjacent street which was metered (only good late sat and sunday). Our superior room probably wasn't worth the extra as all you pay...

Located on the top of a hill in Edinbugh's "Old Town" area, the hotel [former headquarters of the Scottish Roayal College of Surgeons] was a wonderful find, offering both "room only" and "bed & breakfast" options. Rooms were simple, but well-appointed; restaurant offered a substantial buffet breakfast and a diverse dinner menu; and the entire staff was very welcoming and...

I originally stayed at this hotel because of it's proximity to the University of Edinburgh. The rooms have all been clean with good sized bathrooms. On the second visit, we were upgraded to a lovely corner suite with great views of Arthur's Seat. The location is good - close to the Royal Mile and an easy, if steep, walk down...

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
