The Victorian townhouse was like a home away from home. It is very warm and cosy, the owner Aileen was very friendly and helpful with how to get about with info about bus stops and bus numbers as we were going to the zoo and weren't sure how to get there. The breakfast was lovely with fresh fruit and cooked...

We loved this B&B. Only three rooms, very spacious. Comfortable and hostess Aileen was so great. The location is near the Haymarket Train station, where the bus from the airport also lets you out. Easy to get around Edinburgh especially if you like to walk. We did take a city bus twice but walked mostly.Very quiet neighborhood. Too easy to...

The rooms are at garden level--one floor down from the street--and you must be prepared to carry your own luggage up and down. Our room at the front of the house was enormous, with a nice sitting area away from the 2 double beds. Aileen greeted us with chocolates and scotch! She prepares a lovely breakfast and was totally unfazed...

This being our first trip to Edinburgh and not knowing the City, we could not have picked a better place to stay. Aileen is a delightful host who makes you feel right at home in her home. All of her little extra touches were greatly appreciated. We had an early train to take and she left the coffee pot ready...

We absolutely adore Aileen and will definitely stay with her again next trip. The location is very close to the Haymarket station so has easy access from the airport and to Tram and busses to downtown....

My husband and I thought the BnB was just lovely. Aileen is so accommodating. She packed us a snack a day we left early for an all day tour, she introduced all the guests to each other at breakfast which prompted a wonderful conversation. Our room was large and had a wonderful bathroom. It is a perfect place to stay...

Honestly, I never write reviews - but I would like to thank Aileen for the most wonderful break! This is our third visit to The Victorian House. It feels like home from home. Aileen makes us so welcome. The usual box of chocolates and flask of whisky greets us. The room is spacious, comfortable and interestingly decorated with African artefacts. Big comfy bed. At breakfast we're introduced to other guests for a good natter. Food is efficiently served...

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
