Good location and pleasant stay. Excellent breakfasts. Quite a small room though on the top floor and although we came back her for a third stay I found all the stairs harder this time due to knee problems.

We were 13 persons who invaded this fine small hotel 19-22 august occupying 5 of the 6 rooms. Rooms were small and comfy and the breakfast.... well I just loved it. The hotel lies comfortably close to the center of the city - nice bars and eating places in the neighborhood. 10 minutes walk to the tram that can take... More

Couldn't fault the guest house for cleanliness & friendliness of staff. The location is amazing & breakfast more than ample to set you up for the day. It is situated within walking distance of the castle & has an abundance of restaurants and bars close by

A comfortable BnB ideally situated for access on foot to all Fringe sites. Breakfast was very good, huge portions, enough to set you up for the day, all freshly cooked. Staying at the Broughton Hotel is a good option for everyone coming to Edinburgh. The rooms and the bathrooms are really clean. A big plus is the full Scottish breakfast, cooked by Fiona and Freddy, who are both very friendly. We enjoyed our two night there very much and would recommend it to everyone since there is nothing to complain... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
