My friend and I stayed overnight after our visit to Theatre had a very comfortable stay and an excellent freshly cooked breakfast much better than the usual buffet style in most premises these days. Will be fully recommending this hotel to our friends and hope to return soon.

We had a 2 night stay here following good reviews on tripadvisor and I have to say that for location and service from the hosts, it is really good value. Free parking is also a good draw I cannot give 5 stars however for a few reasons: We had room 9 at the top, the stairs are no problem for... More

Located close to Princes Street, but in a quiet part of town (very important) and with a comfortable bed, so I got a good night's sleep. Staff very friendly and a heart breakfast included. Decor a bit tired, but staying here was excellent value. I will definitely stay here again next time I am in Edinburgh.

Tiny but nice Place to stay. Very friendly welcome, a place where you can reach nice places by foot. The Room was small but clean and very cute. A good breakfast rounded up our stay at Broughton Hotel.

Good location and pleasant stay. Excellent breakfasts. Quite a small room though on the top floor and although we came back her for a third stay I found all the stairs harder this time due to knee problems.

My sister and I stayed here. We both loved this very friendly welcoming hotel. The owners could not do enough for us and gave us very helpful information about the festival. The location is excellent. City centre but tucked away in a quiet street of beautiful character Townhouses ...got a great nights sleep. Very short pleasant walk to restaurants, bars,... More

We were 13 persons who invaded this fine small hotel 19-22 august occupying 5 of the 6 rooms. Rooms were small and comfy and the breakfast.... well I just loved it. The hotel lies comfortably close to the center of the city - nice bars and eating places in the neighborhood. 10 minutes walk to the tram that can take... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
