Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.

When my family and were looking for a place to stay in Edinburgh, we came across The Broughton Hotel. It was very reasonable, included breakfast, was in a very convenient location, and even more amazing, included parking. We booked it and we are so glad we did. The rooms were very comfortable. The breakfast was amazing. The parking was incredibly convenient. And the walk to Edinburgh Castle, Royal Mile, and the palace of Holyrood, was only about 15 minutes. Our hosts were super helpful and did everything to make sure our stay was pleasant. Highly recommend.

Property's Favorite Review
Having checked online for somewhere to stay in Edinburgh, I realised there are few hotels with parking availability, not only could I park at the Broughton but it is only 5 minutes from Harvey Nichols and 10 minutes walk from Princes street, perfect for a stroll round the christmas market, There are plenty of options for eating nearby and I would definitely stay at this hotel again 👍

I stayed in this B&B with my family for a weekend in Edinburgh, what a fabulous service we received, lovely owners, our room was clean and had everything we needed, Great breakfast offered and the owners were so friendly and helpful. The B&B was so close to the local amenities I loved the little personal touches added to the room and throughout the B&B which you don’t often see in larger chains. I will definitely stay here again when I come back to Edinburgh
