This hotel was quality. 3 rooms booked for friends and all were of a high standard. With friendly, helpful staff and a great full Scottish breakfast we could only praise this hotel. Will definitely book again.

A stay midweek in a suite downstairs from reception. Excellent welcome by the two staff (Blaze) cool to go with the cooler name was so professional. The suite had everything and more that you could ever need. Space, music, two tv screens, fridge, drinks, nespresso machine, sweets, dressing robes, huge bed which was a real struggle to get out of... More

We stayed for our first little break away together since having our daughter 18 months ago. We really liked this hotel, but we did have a few problems with our room. We were in a small double. We knew, having read reviews beforehand that the room would be quite small, and although it was, it was everything we needed, with... More

Probably the smallest hotel room we have ever stayed in, my husband twice cracked his knuckles off the ceiling whilst getting dressed (he's not quite 6ft). An expensive 2 night stay for such a small room up several flights of stairs. Window opening mechanism didn't work, the curtain flew off the pole when I pulled it open (no end cap),... More

My initial attempt at booking a room was difficult, however once the manager Chris Lynch became involved I received first class customer service and the promised upgrade on arrival! Thanks to his excellent care I would have absolutely no hesitation in visiting again! The hotel is situated in the New Town area of Edinburgh with beautiful cobbled streets, felt just... More

First off, your staff deserve the most credit as they provided the most excellant care and quality of service that I couldn't have imagined. They bend over backwards for the guests and really do make the stay that extra bit special. So we checked in after 3pm and got an incredibly warm welcome, amazed by the location and quietness of... We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Nira Caledonia. The staff were so friendly and attentive - they couldn't do enough for us. The room was stylish and comfortable. New Town is our favourite part of Edinburgh and we will definitely be back.

Great weekend away. Rooms all well appointed and very clean. Staff excellent. Breakfast ideal and room service an added treat with the Sunday papers. Good location in a very quiet part but walking distance from the centre/old town. Will return!

This is a decent place to stay. A good night's sleep can be had, whilst being close to the city centre and with very local cafes, restaurants and shops. The staff were excellent. Stayed two nights with my partner. Had a large ground floor room with a very small ensuite. The shower had very little pressure. The room was nice, clean and well equipped. It got very cold at night. I used the bathrobe one of the nights to warm up before going to sleep. The only reason we would not stay again... More

Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighborhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighborhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

Nira Caledonia is surrounded by the cobbled streets and Georgian elegance of New Town, a short stroll from Princes Street, Nira Caledonia is a central yet peaceful Edinburgh retreat. Amid the plush pelmets, rich textures and original cornices you'll find flat-screen televisions, Nespresso coffee machines, complimentary Wi-Fi and iPod docking stations. You'll find warm, heartfelt service and a cool, quirky style. Each of our sumptuous rooms and suites is unique, with its own opulent character. Many have vast floor-to-ceiling sash windows, others open out onto a private garden and some feature a relaxing Jacuzzi. All have new ultra-comfortable beds and pillows of goose feather and down. As a protected Grade A building we don't have a lift, but our porters are always on hand and we offer 24-hour room service. The cuisine at our restaurant is natural, fresh and often organic, with ingredients farmed, caught, raised or bred in Scotland and with over 25 Scotch whiskey blends and single malts, our bar also focuses on local flavours.
