This is University style accommodation with a double bed. That said they provided all of the facilities you might expect, bar a decent bathroom. So wifi, tea/coffee, TV, towels, hair drier etc were provided but I think the bathroom is best described as a cabin like wet room, if you've ever been in a caravan or boat. We got lucky,...

Conveniently situated and clean hotel. Edinburgh city centre is only 900m.away. Very good breakfast. Reasonable price.(£69 for single room, £94 for double room.) Only drawback is that there is no lift.

The only thing good about this hotel is the location. Otherwise this hotel should be avoided at all costs. It tariff is steep compared to the facilities provided. Its an old hotel without a lift. The reception is located away from the entrance of the hotel and it is difficult to locate it. We were allotted a room on the...

The title says it all. A good option for staying during the festival. The rooms are basic but fine. 5 minute too the Pleasance and 10 to the Royal Mile and Cowgate. We paid approx. £180 B&B and the Ibis down the road was showing £220 for room only. The breakfast (especially if your have the full Scottish) will set...

Stayed here with my boyfriend, August bank holiday for the fringe festival and the Edinburgh tattoo. The hotel was basic but very clean and value for money. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included but we was to late to eat (oops) but it looked and smelt very nice. Was only a 10 minute walk to the...

Basic budget accommodation, however, location is great and price during the festival was not over the top. Rooms are compact and basic but clean. Staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfast is better than some I've had in four star hotels. Excellent buffet selection with hot selection cooked to order. If you're looking for somewhere cheap and clean with...

After I booked this hotel, I found out it's also a student residence of Univ. of Edinburgh. But my floor was only for tourist, so I couldn't see any students. It's cheap, clean and very basic hotel. Only body-wash soap is in the bathroom. So you must bring your toiletries. The breakfast buffet was great. You can also order free...

Well I was looking for somewhere basic and that`s what I got.Reception, was good tho. Very helpful staff. The room was very basic. Very small, with en-suite toilet, small wash hand basin and "wet-room" style shower. It smelt quite damp to be frank. The light at the side of my bed didn`t work either which was really annoying as I...

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
