7 of us in a 12 bed dorm. Unbelievable value for money and great location and the staff were lovely. Showers were deadly too! Bathrooms were very clean and it wasnt loud from outside at all either. Great for young people!

Stayed here for one night with 9 lads on a boozy night away. Was grand for that but rooms are in fairly poor condition. Shared bathrooms with other dorms also. You also have to pay a £20 deposit, but we got it back no bother. Rules in this hostel are very flexible, is great for a lads night away, but...

I will be right honest and say right away that the thing that made this Hostel THE BEST EVER was the STAFF. We had an 8 person Costa Rican crew descending upon Edinburgh and our first friendly face we came upon was Adam! We all absolutely loved him! He was so nice, friendly and helpful that we can't talk enough...

Stayed in this hostel with university friends for the weekend. The place was great, clean, warm, good location and comfortable. However, the best thing about this hostel is the staff, Helen, the woman working for the time we stayed was so helpful and patient with all of us! Thank you!

The hostel itself is clean, loads of natural lights that sets you in a good mood automatically and loads of great people. The people staying there are real travelers. Very different to the other 7 hostels I stayed in in Edinburgh. I would always come again to this place! The staff is the most amazing part of the hostel though,...

The staff at this hostel really makes it what it is. Helen is an absolute angel. She seemed to have an answer for everything and was always fun and smiling. Our beds weren't ready when we checked in so she apologized, took care of it herself, and gave us complementary breakfast the next day for the trouble. Don't really have...

Amazing staff. We were three people, so we got a private room. The city centre is very near as the hay market station, and the beautiful st. Mary cathedral. Facilities weren't wery good: too small and cold. Staf gentile e simpatico. Abbiamo affittato, essendo in tre una stanza personale. L'ostello é centrale, vicino alla stazione di Hay Market e a...

My friends and I have stayed in hostels before and we always had a pleasant experience (we're not too demanding: hot water, heating and cleanliness is pretty much everything we ask for). However, in The hostel we didn't get anything of the before mentioned; our room didn't have a heating system and it was very cold the entire time (so...

The stuff is really nice and kind!! But that's the only positive thing about this hostel. What bothers me the most is that we have shared one bathroom with the whole hostel and not being warned about it before booking rooms. On their pager stays that it's one bathroom per floor, but when we got there the bathroom on our...

Hi Thanks for staying at The Hostel. We are sorry we did not meet your expectations this time. Unfortunately we were refurbishing the bathroom on your floor during your stay. However, we have now finished this and it won't happen again. We have also had the heating looked at, and it has been upgraded to work more effectively. We are...

Stayed in the 14 bed dormitory for three nights and for the price I paid was happy with it. There are decent communal areas, probably one of the nicer bathrooms I've seen although could have done with more toilets. Helen on reception was really lovely and friendly. The hostel is across the road from Haymarket station and within walking distance...

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
