We stayed here for two nights to see a play as part of the Festival. Location is good for the theatre area and a reasonable walking distance from the Royal Mile. I would advise taking a taxi to and from the station, if arriving by train. The walk can be strenuous! As we found out on arrival. We are a... More

Hotel was as you would expect from a Premier Inn. Clean room, comfortable bed and excellent shower. Reception staff very pleasant and helpful. Room was a tad on the small size but adequate. Quiet room for a good night's sleep and only 5 minute walk from car park on Riego St and 10 minutes from castle. Ask staff to validate your... More

This was our 12th visit to the Premier Inn for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. As usual the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were very good, and seem to have improved over the years. The hotel was refurbished last within the last year - our room was most pleasant, although the new wardrobe unit is somewhat small, situated... More

Stayed at this Premier Inn for 2 nights, in order to visit the Military Tattoo. Found it excellent for the late night return. Could walk from the Castle to the hotel in 10 minutes, with only one "side" street, which was excellent for the late night return. Room was clean, comfortable and had all we needed. Had dinner here both... More

Exactly what you'd expect from Premier Inn and more. Comfy, modern and clean recently refurbished rooms, more boutique than budget. Pleasant staff and great location near the Grassmarket and Edinburgh Castle. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

This Premier Inn is one of the best I have stayed in beyond all doubt. We had never visited Edinburgh before and so new little of the City when we arrived. We actually initially accessed the wrong Premier Inn but the staff were extremely helpful, allowed us to leave our car parked at this location whilst giving us directions to... More

Superb location near centre and tourist attractions with bus routes, including No 35, very close. The hotel benefited from a staffed reception with friendly and helpful staff and large waiting area on the ground floor. The rooms (none of which were on the ground floor) had air conditioning, a direct dial telephone, windows which partially opened, a bathroom with an... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
