An attractive Georgian building in a highly sought after and convenient location, with very clean, spacious, comfortable rooms. Friendly staff make this a very welcoming place to stay. A reasonable breakfast makes this very good value for money!

Had a fantastic stay at the hotel. Was greeted by the owner Mr Mann who was lovely, a very interesting man who was chatty and cheerful. We advised him that we came from the Isle of Man and he was genuinely interested especially when talking about the TT. The room we had was clean and spacious and the bed was...

This is fantastic gem of a small family run hotel in Central Edinburgh. Located on Royal Terrace (a lovely Georgian terrace on the north slope of Calton Hill) and just a five minute walk to the Playhouse theatre. The hotel is a lovingly preserved Georgian building. The room we stayed in (rm 11) was very quiet on the 3rd floor...

We arrived before the check in time we had agreed and the room wasn't quite ready yet, but this was absolutely no problem as we were able to leave our bags and pick up our keys before heading out. There was even a bathroom available if we had wanted to get changed. It was really handy being able to pick...

We got there a bit early but it was no problem at all to check in even though it was before set time. The building is beautiful and we were pleased with our room. The toilet and shower was very small but for us that was not a problem. Everything is in walking distance. I think our walk to the...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
