Travelers' Choice
We’ve created an award-winning collection of luxury, serviced apartments that combine stylish design with all the benefits of home, where the great city location is the cherry on top. They are most definitely apartments done distinctively. Like home, but better. We’ve put some serious thought into designing apartments that not only encourage easy living, but look stunning from floor-to-ceiling. Whilst you kick off your shoes and settle in, we’ll quietly be beavering away in the background to ensure that all the important little details are taken care of – in a nutshell, it’s the best bits of hotel service with the added freedom of apartment living. Lateral City’s eclectic portfolio of apartments includes three distinct and rather magnificent properties. There’s Merchiston Residence, set in a leafy residential quarter, a short stroll from the city centre, 15th-century Old Town Chambers, just off Prince’s Street, and our newest jewel, The Edinburgh Grand, smack-bang in the beating heart of town. Unique and idiosyncratic in character they ooze the uncommon, but all share our passion for stylish design, contemporary features and ultra-modern technology. We don’t define your stay, we’re simply here to make it that bit more amazing.

This is the first time we've stayed at serviced apartments, and, frankly, given the choice I would stay in one again rather than an hotel. It must be noted that The Cheval has set the bar extremely high. These apartments are spacious, beautifully appointed, with a lovely dining and seating area. It is equipped to a high standard, with top of the range appliances (Nepresso coffee machine, pods etc are provided) , THE most comfortable bed, and generously stocked bathroom soaps and lotions. The staff are friendly, courteous and professional. Highly recommended.

Very comfortable and enjoyable 3 night stay at Cheval Old Town Chambers. Apartment was brand new and spotless. No housekeeping during stay owing to COVID-19 although any replenishments were cheerfully fulfilled by reception. Location is ideal - just down a small alleyway off High Street (Royal Mile) although if you like climbing stairs the property can be accessed by around 130 of them upwards off of Cockburn Street. Some late night noise from revellers on the stairs outside but nothing too distracting. Additional apartments and new reception area currently under construction in adjoining. Building which look absolutely stunning. Would definitely stay here next time in Edinburgh.

We booked this apartment for our trip to Edinburgh for 4 nights. We were very much looking forward to staying here due to all the amazing reviews. I did email the hotel prior to our arrival to ask for a quiet room. Firstly I have to mention the 100 + steps you have to go up to get to the apartment, this is an ordeal carrying 2 suitcases!! After we had almost passed out from all the stairs we checked in quickly and with no issues. Our apartment (606) was on the 1st floor facing the rear courtyard. The apartment was a good size (although it does look much bigger in the photos). It was very well equipped, very clean and the decor and furnishings were really good. The bed was very large and comfy. It did have a lovely balcony which over looked the courtyard The downsides to the apartment are - it has no aircon and you can't turn the heating down below 16 degrees. This meant it was very hot at night and I didn't sleep well. We were unable to open the windows due to the building site in the building opposite. Our apartment was also quite over looked and anyone walking in to the courtyard could see in to the living room and bedroom, this meant we had to keep the curtains closed a lot of the time for privacy After 2 nights of little sleep I spoke to reception and they did turn the heating off which meant I did sleep better. Unfortunately I was still woken by the builders opposite and also by the sound of people walking in the apartment above which was really loud!! It sounded like someone walking with lead boots on The apartment was not serviced/cleaned for the whole 4 nights we stayed and we did run out of toilet roll on the last day which was unfortunate. It would have been nice to have it cleaned just once. The location is excellent literally just off the royal mile and within walking distance to everything in the old town. Lots of nice shops and places to eat nearby plus lots of things to see and do. A note to mention - there are no supermarkets or shops to get groceries near by which is annoying. Overall we did enjoy our stay and would stay here again. I would just like a different apartment which wasn't so over looked and noisy.

I would have preferred not to have room above a building site. The hotel were renovating rooms below which made it impossible to work in the morning...Not even a partial refund was offered which I thought was quite strange... The room was actually otherwise very nice. And staff were friendly and very attentive.
