We stayed in this lovely and clean Hotel for 5 nights; what can I say, the room was spotlessly clean, the amenities were great and well the view of Edinburgh Castle was quite magical. It is a well staffed Hotel and every member of staff we met were always friendly and professional, all making a great team. We had a... More

As short people, we noticed how high everything is here - high beds, high ceilings, tall elevator ceilings and a mirror in the bathroom that we could barely use. It was especially funny after a shower and the anti-fog portion was over our heads. Thankfully the window wasn't too tall to see out. Other than being too short for the... More

Stayed one night as a wedding guest. The wedding was excellent and well organised. The staff were superb, very friendly and helpful! Our bedroom was small but clean and functional. The breakfast was average, disappointed they didn't serve smoked haddock or eggs Benedict. Vastly overpriced for what we got! The bar prices were exorbitant!!

Dear RhonddaGirl-1, Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel. I am sorry to read that although your stay was an enjoyable one that the breakfast and bathroom size were clear detractors. The breakfast items have been carefully selected from a survey with our guests with the items on offer what our guests indicated were important. I am... More

This hotel is extremely well placed for the main tourist attractions in the centre of Edinburgh. It is a short easy walk to the west end of Princes St and the Castle. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. I did not eat in the main restaurant but the bar food was good. The off-site parking was easy to reach, a... More

Good location if you want to be close to the castle and the golden mile ! Lots of bars and restaurants around the hotel. Given an upgrade to the honours floor - nice room and staff very friendly (for Scotland). Can be pricey if you don't book weeks before as it gets booked up quickly (must be all the visiting... More

I stayed for four nights on a personal sightseeing trip. The location of this hotel is within easy walking of the major attractions, especially the Edinburgh Castle. At one end of the block is a Starbucks. At the other, a Sainsbury grocery store, so it was easy to pick up a few things. The entire staff was very professional and... More

This was a very nice hotel. The only drawback is that it is a little bit of a walk to get to the main streets of Edinburgh. We don't mind walking but after walking around all day, we didn't want to make the trip back up the hill for dinner. There were several options near the hotel, so all was... More

We spent three nights at the Double Tree, which is in the center of the city. As a result, we did not need a car and were able to walk everywhere. It is located at the base of the castle. Best location!

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
