We loved our castle view room. Great king bed rooms, front desk help wentry above and beyond in making us comfortable at our super early arrival. The breakfast was lacking, though. Food was cold or gone. Pancakes and eggs were overcooked. But we'd stay here again because of it's convenience to everything.

This was our second visit to this hotel which is very well situated for both the old and new town areas of Edinburgh. For those arriving by train it is situated nearer to Haymarket Station than Waverley. I would not hesitate to use this hotel again when we visit Edinburgh.

We arrived on the bank holiday Saturday for 2 nights. Our room wasn't ready as we were too early. We left our luggage while we went off to do a tour and have a wonder. Our room had a castle view which was fantastic, the room was quiet even though there was a road below. The beds were extremely comfy.... More

Yes it is city center. However it's downhill a long way including huge steps and a schlep across an entire park to access Princes Street. If Usher Hall or Grassmarket is your destination you're in business. Do not chose this location of trying to be near Princes street or Waverly. Unless you enjoy carrying a bag completely vertically. Rooms good... More

Dear notadq, Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel after your recent stay with us. I am sorry to read that the hotel was on the wrong side of the Castle for you due to the hill to get to the Royal Mile and Princes Street. Although both destinations are a pleasant stroll, it is a hilly... More

While the staff was friendly and the hotel clean, the hotel room had only minimal space for clothing storage. The small closet was filled with a coffee service, refrigerator, safe, ironing board and iron. The one small drawer in the closet was filled with a huge hair dryer. The only other place for clothing were two small drawers in one... More

Dear akwwka, Thank you for taking the time to review your hotel experience. I am disappointed to read that your stay with us was a poor one overall due to storage space within the room and the elevator which was out of service. Although the hairdryer is removable and there is space on the upper shelve of the wardrobe along... More

The staff were brilliant, friendly and could not do enough for you, our room was very clean, was hoping for a bath but there was a shower. We were put in a Hh rooms but then we found out there was a wedding party in the penthouse which kept us awake until 1am. The breakfast was good, plenty of choice... More

Stayed for 3 nights in July. Had some difficulties finding the hotel; paid parking not too far from hotel. The cookies are a nice touch upon arrival. Note no bellboy service at this hotel. We booked two connecting rooms with castle view. What they don't tell you on the website is that the castle view is in fact the back... More

Again a lovely stay at the hotel - 3 years in a row - we prove in practice that it is a hotel that can be highly recommended. This time the hole family, we celebrated my wife's birthday. Fantastic hotel , loved that it is an old CO-OP, beautifully restored, the views of the castle from the 4th floor were gorgeous. Dinner and breakfast in the brasserie well cooked and service excellent . Pricey but was Edinburgh in August, c'est la vie !

Booked for a wedding in Edinburgh, checked in quickly and given a wee cookie to enjoy. Room nice, bright big window with view of the castle, big king size bed and roomy bathroom. Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
