Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

We had a Itison voucher and stayed for 2 nights. First impressions are nice, welcoming, helpful and friendly staff and a great location right at the bottom of Princess Street. We stayed in the Gavin & Scott room. Nice sized room with a comfy bed. Wardrobes could be better, didn't like the hanging rail facing forward as it made hanging clothes quite tricky. (Minor gripe!!) However, our room overlooked a side street, quiet you would think?. Think again.... Both mornings (fri/sat) we were woken up at silly hours, be it glass bins being emptied, road works, workman working on the next door building. It was a total nightmare for us. At 5.20am I gave in and called reception to ask if there was another room we could move to as this was our second night without sleep, but were

Thank you for your review. I am dissapointed to hear that you did not enjoy your stay with us. Unfortunately Edinburgh is surrounded by building works at the moment and due to our fantastic central location we will always be subject to a small amount of city noise. Building works do not commence until 7am during the week and rarely ever at weekends. There should be no works taking place during the hours of 17:00 and 07:00 however late night / early morning bin pick ups are something that we can not avoid being in the city centre. We do not offer air con in the hotel. Being based in Scotland with we do not feel that air con is a neccessity for the hotel and we do not advertise to have this facility. We have invested in tower fans that can be used upon request. Your comments are very valid to us and I thank you once again for your review.

102 - Sean Connery room, very nice and spacious, nice touches like hand weights, decent hairdryer, good size mugs (but not the best range of teas and coffee). Room overlooks road and is immediately outside the lift (noisey). Bathroom is great size but the bath was tiny - 5ft 5 and I was more comfy with feet on the sides! Shower is fab very powerful but drowns the bathroom as the shower shield is too small. Damp damaging the floor and strange dirty fitting in bathroom (pictures) also the electrical cover on plugs under the table is loose. More attention to detail needed but overall a great idea, good location and bar staff downstairs are great (special mention for Brooke who works in the bar and is a delight). Reception is upstairs but well sign posted if a little messy with

Thank you for your review. I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed the touches that we feel are so important and that seperate us from the usual chain hotels. Our location as as you say is - great - however being so central we will always be subject to a little noise from the vibrant bustling city that Edinburgh is! Double glazing has been installed along with lovely heavy curtains to keep the room nice and dark. Thank you for bringing the electrical socket issue to our attention this was passed straight to maintenance on recieveing your review. Brooke has also been applauded for her great efforts! Thank you once again for your review. We appreciate all feedback and I can assure you that all comments have been acted upon.

We did not stay in this hotel but visited the bar for a Lunchtime bar meal. Service was great staff were pleasant, food and presentation of the food were really good. The deco is very nice with huge chandeliers making the place look very trendy.

I stayed here for 3 nights with my friend whilst visiting the city. The hotel has recently been refurbished which meant it was hard to find initially as they changed the name. Every room is named after a famous Scottish person. We had the Calvin Harris room which was great, with a huge picture of him at the head of the bed. The service was very good - housekeeping delivered cocktails from the bar up to our room and staff were generally friendly. The only concern is if this hotel takes off (it seemed quite quiet) and becomes busier, there wasn't a proper entrance or a Lobby area. You walk straight into the restaurant which could become congested with luggage etc. The only negative I would say was the quality of the breakfast, which at £6.50 - £8.50 is not cheap. Disappointingly

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are indeed newly refurbished! Our 30 rooms are each dedicated to a famous Scot - some rather obscure! We strive to priovide the very best customer service and believe that this puts us ahead of many ' chain hotels' in the area. We are very much a destination venue with a large bar and restaraunt which is becoming a very popular destination for Edinburgh locals and residents alike. Our reception is located on the first floor ( accesable by lift or stairs) and we make sure that staff are immediately available to help any hotel guests on the ground floor with luggage on arrival. We feel that having the reception in a slightly more obscure setting makes us that little bit more quirky and has proved to work very well so far. I am very dissapointed to hear about your breakfast experience. Our eggs benedict has been a firm favouite so far. We aim to serve freshly made to order, locally sourced food and I do apologise that on this occasion we failed to deliver. I can assure you that this will be addressed immediately and thank you for bringing it to my attention. We serve food from 7am until 10pm daily and our menu so far has gone down a storm - with delights such as Salted Beef Macaroni Cheese pots and Homemade burgers to Haggis tweeds and delicious fresh salads. We highly reccomend a visit! Thank you once again for taking the time to write your review, we really appreciate the feedback!

This has been recently refurbished and may well have just changed hands. It has a Scottish Celeb theme going on, with each room named after one. I stayed in the David Coultard room. So each room has a giant photo of the celeb. Rooms are nice, comfortable, stylish in that Boutiquey way. Bathroom small but nice (no powershower). Cool bar with secret door to the basement night club. Excellent breakfast and served rather than congealling buffet which is a major plus for me and a great nights sleep, which is unusual for Edinburgh as it seems to be a noisey town if you get too close to Princes Street - 5 am Street Cleaners and deliveries the main culprit. The only thing that lets this hotel down is the corridors which are a bit shabby, but you spend the least amount of time in them

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review. Having just recently opened I am delighted to hear such positive feed back. We aim to offer our guests the very best that Edinburgh has to offer in food, drinks, comfort and style and I am so pleased to hear that your comments reflect this! Our corridors have just had a lovely new carpet laid and the walls have been painted with the lyrics to ' auld lang syne' circling each floor! On showers - the water pressure is usually very strong so I think perhaps there may have been a slight problem in your room - of course this is being addressed as I type! Once again my sincere thanks for your lovely comments - I hope to welcome you back to the Angels Share Hotel on any return visits you may plan!
