The staff could not have been more helpfull and friendly. The bedroom was huge as was the bathroom. Everything very nice and clean. Location great, near everything. The only thing one must know is that it is four floors up: that means STAIRS UP! One must mention that David took ALL our luggage up and down for us! All we... More

An excellent hotel in a superb location which gave us value for money when we took advantage of one of their offers. My husband and I visited the hotel in August to celebrate our anniversary and we mentioned this when we were checking in. When dining in the restaurant we were given complimentary champagne and pastries, a very thoughtful gesture.... More

I booked this accommodation for my parents as part of a break to Edinburgh to see the Tattoo, having spent quite a long time researching where would be best for them to stay. They have now reported back and have not stopped saying how great the whole thing was and asked me to leave a review! David could not have... More

We stayed at Randolph Mackenzie for a week in July. Great location in new town near Princes Street. Confortable and large room. Cleanliness, great shower in a large bathroom. Great kindness of the landlord. Affordable prices. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you David, Paola, Ines e Silvia

We had booked to stay here on the 3rd July for my Birthday but we where told a few days before that there had been a flood and our stay had been cancelled. This did cause us some problems as it left little time to find a new place to stay. However the owner informed us he would compensate with... More

After a slightly stressful trip we were greated by David on the steps offering to carry our bags up the stairs, 60 sound a alot but it wasn't bad at all. Our spacious room was really comfortable, unfortunately no views but that wasn't a problem. HUGE bathroom with great shower. Bathrobes and tea/coffee facilites. Our first trip to Edinburgh and... We went to Edinburgh for the weekend and just need a nice room to sleep. We couldn't have chose better for the price, ad it was in a perfect location near all the restaurants and bars of George Street & Princess street with lots of nice bars just around the corner too! Yes there is 60 steps to climb up,... More

When I got to my place it was very early still, but I wanted to drop my luggage. So there are alot of stairs, but it makes it possible to have all the sky lights in the hotel! And when I buzzed, the man came and met me and offered to take my luggage, it was way to heavy and... More

We recently stayed at the Randolph MacKenzie hotel in Edinburgh. The room was absolutely lovely, had tea and coffee making facilities, massive tv, huge and very comfortable bed. The bathroom was quite big also and had a huge shower. The location was great. Only about a 5 minute walk to Princes Street, and about a 10 minute cab ride from... More

A converted top floor of an old terraced building just off princess street. Rooms were very well furnished, very comfy and clean. Really could not find any fault with it. Really a perfect place to stay @ £60 a night, and see the city. Will most certainly be back to stay!

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
