Do not book this hotel! Our experience was awful!!! We stayed there on the night Aug 5. We were given a basement double twin room number 4 with a non operable window onto a light / ventilation shaft. The carpet was damp and moldy. The room was the size of a janitor's closet. There was a constant plumbing noise from... More

To expensive for a little room, where the space for two persons are to small. We stand here two nights, and the bed was very soft and we don't slept well in it. The breakfast was OK and we got enough to eat. There was very noisy at the room. The personal was friendly. We will not book this hotel... More

Efficient welcome and the staff we saw were friendly but not warm. Our room was in the basement, was like a broom cupboard and absolutely stunk of damp. The pillows were damp to the touch. After asking for another room, we got a much bigger room but also in the basement and they gave this room to another two unfortunate... More

The staff were very helpful (except for one girl, who could not speak English well). Located in a very old building, but tastefully renovated. They do not have a lift at the premises and had given us 3 rooms- one on the second floor and the other on the third. My mom who is 74 years, found it difficult to... More

The hotel is around a 10-15 minute walk into the city centre, clean tidy rooms, we were put in room 36 with 3 single beds in which is fair enough but when you specifically book the hotel with a double room and get this it's a bit disappointing, as we are a couple and requested a double. Staff are nice,... More

We ended up booking this hotel through Hotwire, so we got a really good rate for our stay! After a nightmare experience in Glasgow, we were definitely hesitant walking in. The front desk staff was very professional. Our room was great, ensuite with two twin beds. The beds could've been more comfortable. Everything was very clean, extra pillows left in... More

The Piries Hotel is well situated to do most of the sightseeing in the old part of Edinurgh. It is a classic Georgian Hotel in the city center. It is on Queenferry St . which becomes Princes St. which is the main traffic street through the older town. You only have to walk two blocks to catch the light rail... More

The room was comfortable and breakfast was nice. Easy access to train and buses to get to shopping, tours and trains. The Haymarket Train Station is pretty much across the street from Coates Garden. We had some loud people that partied coming back to the hotel around 3 AM, but overall very quiet.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
