The stale, damp, musty smell as you walk into the annex summed up the place. Had to return to reception to ask for basics such as towels and toilet roll in the room. The staff didn't seem very competent. On the plus side the location is convenient for the West End.

This place has to be the worst hotel I've stayed in the whole UK, Travelodge even tho no frills is twice as good at half the price we paid. Damp everywhere, had staff painting the corridors while we were staying, place stunk of wet paint with a mixture of damp the whole visit. House cleaning walked in on me and... More

Were do I start, the list is endless. My sisters & I had booked this trip 6 months previous booking two twin rooms, when we were shown to our rooms, one of which was in the basement (very smelly, dark & damp) we had been given one bed + a camp bed which no one wanted to sleep on. The other... More

Stayed here for my honeymoon, for 3 night. The hotel is a bit away from city centre, but the receptionist was really helpful, he told us all near by places to visit. The overall experience was good. Will suggest this hotel to others.

Good hotel, the rooms are spacious, and staff is very humble. They provided us the room before check in time. The only small hitch was that hotel is not having any elevator or lift. And I have to carry 40 kilograms of our luggage to second floor :) but I also noticed that most of the buildings in Scotland does... More

This hotel is in a brilliant location near Haymarket station, nice walk close to Princess St and the castle. The service was poor, the receptionist was more interested in what he was doing on his computer rather than serving us. We arrived at 1:30pm albeit they had said check in was 3pm. The receptionist told us immediately it was a... More

Room and lighting were generally poor. Bathroom had mould in the shower but the worst part was no hot water in the shower at all. Management were unable to check it out so I had to go to another room after I had undressed. Reception water to come down to get a key, had to yell at them to deliver... More

Do not book this hotel! Our experience was awful!!! We stayed there on the night Aug 5. We were given a basement double twin room number 4 with a non operable window onto a light / ventilation shaft. The carpet was damp and moldy. The room was the size of a janitor's closet. There was a constant plumbing noise from... More

To expensive for a little room, where the space for two persons are to small. We stand here two nights, and the bed was very soft and we don't slept well in it. The breakfast was OK and we got enough to eat. There was very noisy at the room. The personal was friendly. We will not book this hotel... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
