The hotel is around a 10-15 minute walk into the city centre, clean tidy rooms, we were put in room 36 with 3 single beds in which is fair enough but when you specifically book the hotel with a double room and get this it's a bit disappointing, as we are a couple and requested a double. Staff are nice,... More

We ended up booking this hotel through Hotwire, so we got a really good rate for our stay! After a nightmare experience in Glasgow, we were definitely hesitant walking in. The front desk staff was very professional. Our room was great, ensuite with two twin beds. The beds could've been more comfortable. Everything was very clean, extra pillows left in... More

The Piries Hotel is well situated to do most of the sightseeing in the old part of Edinurgh. It is a classic Georgian Hotel in the city center. It is on Queenferry St . which becomes Princes St. which is the main traffic street through the older town. You only have to walk two blocks to catch the light rail... More

The room was comfortable and breakfast was nice. Easy access to train and buses to get to shopping, tours and trains. The Haymarket Train Station is pretty much across the street from Coates Garden. We had some loud people that partied coming back to the hotel around 3 AM, but overall very quiet.

Stopped for a couple of nights in June in double room.for what you pay this is excellent,I would definitely book again.i would advise travelling by train though as free parking is only available between 18:30 to 08:30 and then it costs £2.60 per hour but that's the downfall of travelling to the big city's for ya.

We stayed in a twin bedded room and found the room to be very comfortable and clean. The room came with complimentary towels and coffee in the room and the windows opened which during the warm summer days allowed for a cool breeze into the room. We stayed on the third floor in room 37 which was in the back... More

Our room wasn't nice at all. We booked a standard double room. The bathroom had mould all over the ceiling, and on the tiles of the shower. The carpet was filthy, in need of a good clean and hoover. The whole hotel looks shabby and run down, it is in desperate need of good makeover. Decided against staying for breakfast... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
