We just have some very nice days i august. Every one we meet, were so nice and very helpfull. My sister in law and I came for two nights and then returned 4 days later, for two nights again. When I one day come back to Edinburgh, for sure I will stay at The Thistle Hotel.

My room was clean and comfortable, the staff welcoming and helpful. Free WiFi was a little slow, but serviceable - certainly enough for emails/skype etc. Hot water, fresh, fluffy towels. Overall a very good experience.

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights over the weekend. The hotel sits quite a distance from the shops and bars so be prepared for a 15 minute walk or a £4 short taxi ride. The hotel was clean , bedrooms very clean but the bathroom was rather cramped and in need of modernisation quite badly. The staff were awesome... More

Situated a twenty minute, easy, walk from Waverley station, this hotel is a little gem. In a quiet residential area, it is very comfortable and spotless. The staff couldn't be friendlier. As an example I asked Iain if he could point me to a butcher. I needed to buy haggis, black pudding etc.. He found one on the internet and... More

The staff are friendly and the rooms are very nice - big, high ceilings, comfortable beds. The cooked breakfast is very good, and the continental (included) just fine. The location is excellent and it's quiet without being in the middle of nowhere. The mystery-of-the-universe question for me was the bathroom. It works, it really does - the water flows, nothing... This is not part of the Thistle chain. People at the reception were really friendly and that's not the reason why this gets 3 stars. It gets three stars because listed building can have modernised interiors, and whilst it's expensive, it's possible! There's no lift, poor WiFi(our room was in the corner of the top floor) , and old interiors.... More

This hotel is charming, a traditional Victorian listed building (no lift to get 2e-4e floors if you have heavy luggages). My beautiful, even luxury and confortable room (a single) was very nice with view on the roof. The welcome was very warm and helpful. the reception is very pleased to provide umbrellas if you ve got bad weather. However, some... More

Booked in here for business meeting in the morning. It's only 10 minutes walk from Haymarket Train Station and 2 minutes from St. Mary's cathedral. The hotel rooms are a good size with comfortable beds. There is a nice bar next to reception and parking can be provided at £15 for full day. This is reasonable considering its £3 per... More

We stayed over the bank holiday weekend and were going to the Tattoo. The hotel is in the West End, an upmarket, quiet part of town and short walk to Princes Street. Despite being a very busy time of the year and warm enough to want to sleep with the windows open, the quiet location was perfect and we had... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
