I wanted to stay somewhere special for my husbands surprise 40th celebrations and as soon as I saw The Chester residence on my Internet search, I knew this was the perfect place for us and our group of friends to stay. The glowing trip advisor reviews left me with no doubt that I needed to book this place to stay....

My parents, boyfriend, and I stayed three nights at the Chester Residence in June 2013. We began to experience the magnitude of their outstanding customer service several weeks before we arrived. Our reservations concierge was Anna Ritchie. I sent her 19 emails with questions and requests and she responded within 12-hours on every single one. My parents are older so...

I was given the task of booking the accommodation in Edinburgh for our honeymoon, a slightly nerve wracking task full of concern that when we turned up i might regret where i'd booked. However when i saw the owners apartment on The Chester Residence website i was sold. The pictures were amazing and i was sold on it also having...

The minute we exited our vehicle, and were greeted by a young valet in a grey kilt, I knew we were in for a lovely visit. The Chester Residence is my favorite hotel, tied only with The Balmoral. Such a stunning and wonderfully private place to stay, away from the noise and the crowds, it felt like we had stepped...

Had a fabulous night! Only disappointment was we couldn't stay longer. From start to finish it was a fantastic experience. My husband surprised me with a few wee extras, including champagne, wine, and breakfast in the room. An experience never to be forgotten, and hope shall be repeated. Staff are fantastic and accommodation stunning!

I have 200 words to tell you just how amazing the Chester Residence was - trouble is 200 words cannot possibly sum it up. From the chauffeur service at the airport to the umbrella that greeted us as we stepped out of the car to the staff who although all appear young were some of the best customer service I...

We booked a 2 bedroom apartment here for 2 nights with friends. We loved it. A little off the beaten path which was nice and a pleasant walk to everything we needed.-(George and Rose St) The walk to the Castle and the Royal Mile was about 20-30 minute walk. Apartment was fully equipped in the kitchen, both bedrooms were en-suites...

We booked this last minute largely on the strength of other reviews on trip adviser and got a bit of a bargain.....it was everything we hoped for. The Chester is a hybrid between a hotel and an apartment - it doesn't have a restaurant but it it does a have a lounge bar. Situated in beautiful Georgian terrace within walking...

We spent five days here shortly after our wedding. Wasn't intended to be our 'official' honeymoon but actually it was so fantastic and romantic, we did end up counting it as our honeymoon! Straight after we booked we received excellent correspondence from the hotel staff - nice touch. Arrival and check in was perfect. The apartment was just lovely -...

Loved our stay here! Four of us in a lovely, spacious apartment in the Chester St, extension with everything we needed for our one-night stay. Loved the room service breakfast, delivered exactly on-time by two waiters up three flights with no complaints! Pricey, but worth it!

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

“As this is Georgian Edinburgh, the ceilings are hugely high - so this means long staircases. You might prefer a ground-level apartment.”
