We came to Edinburgh at the right time! I mean we missed the Edinburgh festival that happens every year for the month of August, so we got pretty good deal at this hotel. We loved it from first sight. Our room was really like an apartment. There was a huge bedroom, separate bathroom and a spacious living room-kitchen great room.... More

Love love love this hotel. We've been trying to plan a trip back and will be staying here. First of all the location to the castle is great, just behind it around the corner, so getting to the Royal Mile is a 5 minute walk. The hotel itself provides full apartments in gorgeous town homes on a quiet pretty street.... More

This residence consists of several apartments in a very quiet area of Edinburgh. They are clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff is courteous, helpful and attentive. The decorating is ultra modern European, with uncomfortable chairs and bizarre art. We stayed there twice. Our first room had the bathroom down several stairs from the bedroom, which was a bit treacherous at... More

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment on Rothesay Place when we first came to the city, and then stayed in a one bedroom apartment on Chester Street when we returned to the city after touring the Highlands. Both apartments were extremely spacious, well furnished, clean, and well lit with large windows. Very nice to stay in. The staff was... More

We stayed here for two nights in September. The location was perfect, 15 minutes from the Royal Mile, but still in a peaceful quiet neighborhood. We had a great view and the apartment itself had a very nice layout. It was quite spacious. Except for the fact it was just not well kept up. Quite a few things were broken... More

Stayed here for two nights in September with my parents. We booked the two-bedroom Mews Apartment which was beautiful. There is a full kitchen with a big lounge and dining area, two bedrooms with ensuites plus an extra full bathroom with a tub and TV, all beautifully decorated. The beds and linens were wonderful and we loved the fact that... More

We travelled around Scotland for 10 days. We stayed 2 nights in Edinburgh in a quirky apartment on Royal Mile. Our last night in town we stayed here. Both my husband and I were bummed we didn't stay here all 3 nights!!! It was awesome! First we booked directly on hotel website and you get a bit of a cheaper... More

What a happy choice for our first stay in Edinburgh! Although housed in a historic building, the furnishings are clean and modern. The staff is most helpful in all ways, from making us tea when we had to wait for our room to be ready (we were way early, and exhausted) to making dinner suggestions and reservations, to telling us... When we booked The Chester Residence we saw that they were apartment style rooms. Despite this knowledge we were not prepared for how large and extravagant our room was. Our room had a small kitchen, massive lounge area, large bedroom and two full bathrooms. To add to the luxury of the room, the employees all made us feel that they... More

4 nights in these suites in Edinburgh may have spoiled me!. My townhouse suite was incredibly spacious with tall ceilings and was well appointed. Staff were friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the location in the West End as it is very quiet and I felt like a local. There are a couple of pubs in a 5 min walk. The... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
