A lovely hotl overlooking the side of the castle. Rooms beautifully decorated and set out. Bar has music in it till midnight which is an excellent bonus when wanting to relax with a glass of wine. Service in the restaurant slow but food very nice.

Stayed in this Hotel for 1st time in August 2016 - after a long day traveling it was nice to arrive and be greeted by friendly and efficient reception team. Also when I got to my room it was very clean and comfortable and the Wifi had a good signal. Breakfast the following morning was great with a wide selection... More

Stayed for a week and enjoyed very discrete and friendly staff, excellent breakfast, spottlessly clean everywhere. Water pressure and temperature fantastic in the bathroom. Bed was very comfortable but wardrobe space was poor for a room for 4. Nice Poool with jacuzzi and steamroom and small gym. Location is perfect with just a short stroll down to the grassmarket (you... More

Have just stayed for several nights at the Novotel Hotel n Lauriston Place in Edinburgh. We found this hotel to be well reasonably priced. Was clean, and the beds were comfortable. We had travelled from Nice in France to watch the Military Tattoo. Our flight was late (arriving well after midnight) but it was so nice to be so cheerfully... More

This was a budget-style hotel. It did have a pool for the kids and room service which we used. Wifi worked fine. A staff member tried to enter into our room one evening which was scary, but they offered us free breakfast to make up for the mistake.

Friendly reception staff easy check-in and I believe that you can check in online in advance of arrival The room was clean, well equipped and quiet. Breakfast was standard hotel fare and perfectly acceptable. Location is fairly central with plenty of eating places in walking distance

Stayed here for the Tattoo, but also makes an excellent base for Fringe of just an Edinburgh visit. Comfortable well finished rooms. Mattresses were also on the good side of former. Good breakfast choices (tea weak though). Really friendly staff took the stress out of booking in and checking out.

Hotel is in a good location just 10 minutes up the hill for the grassmaket. The rooms have aircon and heating. Our room had a queen size bed and a sofa bed so could have slept 4 people. The bathroom is small and the sink is very unpractical with little space for toiletries. The bathroom was not cleaned very well... More

My friend and I visited this hotel in July, the double room was lovely and clean and had tea making facilities and small fridge. Room was very comfortable. Staff were friendly. This is a centrally located ostensibly modern hotel. The upside is the great staff and maître d in the restaurant and at reception. The downsides are: a sullen barman, poor maintenance - we had to change rooms twice due to faulty wiring in the first and an unlockable connecting door in the second .... The third room was fine but... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
