The rooms at Novotel were exactly what you would expect in an European hotel. It was clean, comfortable and had all the amenities one could want. Very nice restaurant and pub. The staff was helpful, breakfasts were impressive and the hotel was in the epicenter of where one would care to stay in Edinburgh. It was a very spartan hotel.... More

Fantastic staff, great location & very warm atmosphere. Will stay there again! Modern ammenities, pool & gym. Just up the road from restaurants, bars & the Edinburgh bus tours. Seperate toilet to the bathroom. Great breakfast, restaurant & love the bar done as a music record bar

From when we first walked in we could feel that this Novotel was going to be right for our three night stay in Edinburgh. Staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. Our room was very nice with opening windows looking onto the Edinburgh Castle. Fittings were excellent and at an expected standard. The bathroom was clean and well presented. The... More

We were looking for a hotel for two nights in Edinburgh and in the end the Novotel came price/quality on top while ticking most of our boxes. In general though we were surprised to see how expensive hotels were in Edinburgh but this can probably be extrapolated to the whole of the UK. The same kind of hotel would easily... More

Stayed here for a couple of nights. It is within walking distance from the old city and princess street. The lobby bar is really good with very friendly staff. Had great breakfast here on the last morning, wouldn't have minded having it every morning.

It did the job. A place to put your head for two nights. Clean basic functional rooms. Great breakfast, friendly staff, make sure to book breakfast when you check in, cost more if you don't . Small but nice pool and gym facilities. Close to city centre, 10 min walk.

I stayed here with my husband and baby for 3 nights. The hotel & staff were exceptional. We had an early flight and arrived very early for check in but were accommodated and given a complimentary drink while we waited. The receptionist even gave my baby a teddybear which was a lovely touch! We stayed in a suite which more... More

A really great hotel in a perfect location. Breakfast is impressive and worth paying extra for. The family room was big and comfortably held four of us. Parking is worth paying for underneath. All in all I would return.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
