Our time at Novotel was absolutely lovely. The staff were all very nice, especially David in the restaurant, who always gave us a very warm welcome and made our mornings special. The hotel rooms are nice and spacious and it's a good idea to have a separate toilet and shower/bathroom. The swimming pool and jacuzzi were very nice and were...

Location is great, everything was within reach of an average 15min walk. Will definitely consider this place my next visit! The only downside is the limited parking if you are driving. Alternative carpark is offered at a lower rate but still rather inconvenient.

I recently stayed for one night at Novotel, and had a wonderful stay. I was lucky enough to be the "Guest of the Day" and received an upgrade to an Executive Room (probably slightly larger than normal rooms). There was a chocolate brownie waiting for me and a hand written card from the manager wishing me a pleasant stay (A+...

A super modern hotel within easy reach of the Grassmarket and city centre . The room was modern , comfortable beds , free wifi and a bathroom fully equipped with toiletries and linen . The room overlooked the main road but there was no traffic noise . Breakfast was served in a room which was cosy and somewhat crowded and...

We booked a last minute stay here--one of the few hotels we could find in Edinburgh on a busy Saturday evening during early December. The front desk was extremely helpful and welcoming--and their attitude elevated this hotel experience. The modern room (very spartan) was clean, adequately comfortable---and mundane. It served the functional purpose of having a clean bed in which...

Stayed at the Novotel Edinburgh Centre 3 days early January. Hotel is in good location, rooms clean and facilities (apart from the bar - cleaned pumps before 9 in the evening so draft drinks were limited? ) were excellent. Staff were helpful with particular reference to Daniel who is a waiter at breakfast. He was friendly and kind and the...

An excellent hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. We have stayed here on numerous occasions and will certainly return in the near future. Ideal location to access all areas of the city centre very easily.

Stayed here with my girlfriend and 11 year old son. Lovley, clean, modern, hotel. It was a bit pricey due to the time of year but it is worth it for the location and amenities. Swimming pool is a nice touch but could do with a bit of a refurb. The 'Tap' bar downstairs is a cool relaxed place to drink and...

We recently stayed for 3 nights at Novotel Edinburgh to celebrate new years eve and were very happy with the location and the friendly staff. Also they have a nice swimming pool and fitness center which was perfect to loose those extra holiday calories!! Definitely would recommend this to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
