We stayed 6 nights at the Novotel Edinburgh Centre in November-2016 and were thoroughly satisfied with our experience there. Our travel party included children and an older adult, we had two superior rooms (each with a queen bed and convertible sofa) that were connected via an interior door. The hotel has rooms that face the Castle but the superior rooms... More

The reviews regarding the dirty carpets etc. are correct. That aside, there is nothing wrong with the room or staff. The rooms are standard for European standards. Sorry Americans but hotels in Europe are small compared to what you are used to in the states. The water closet is separate from the bathing area. This hotel does work on a... More

Great holiday. Very clean and great breakfast on offer. The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly and attentive to their guests. The location of this hotel is good, just a few minutes walk away from Grassmarket and from Princes city. We walked everywhere. Would highly recommend this hotel to others

The hotel is in a good location, the view from the window is nice. The staff is friendly with us. The room is appropiate and nice. We rest without noise. We had the check-in and the check-out done online so that both on arrival and at check-out everything was ready. The breakfast is good.

Hotel great location, nice staff, liked the bar area and rooms very clean. Very comfy beds and the pillows were fantastic not too soft. We booked a number of rooms for our staff Christmas party. This would have got a rating of '10' if it wasn't for the following :- - Put the room service request on our bedrooms door... More

The staff here were fantastic during our stay. From the receptionist to the catering staff. They were very friendly and really attentive to our needs. The hotel is located in a quiet area and about 15 minute walk to the town centre. They also have a pool, jacuzzi and gym which is free to use. The bed was comfortable and... More

This hotel is visibly becoming a bit dated with the deco internally. The leisure facilities were extremely poor - a small room with just cardio machines. There were no weights. The indoor pool was also very small. With one person in it, I decided not to use. Parking is limited - as expected for CC hotel. NCP is not too... More

Out third time here and as before a great time was had. We managed to reserve an executive suite as before and we love the space it gives and the unobstructed view of the castle. The staff were all pleasant, professional and polite. We had a small heating problem with our room and the staff (inc maintenance guy) all rallied... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
