New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

Fabulous place. The house is furnished as a Georgian residence should be. There were a few pieces of modern furniture thrown in which were just not in keeping with the house. Our room was huge, nice and warm surprisingly for the size of the room and very clean. Breakfast was serv

I recommend you to book a room here because it is very characteristic, it is located in an old palace of 1800..near the city center..The view is very beautiful and Miss Florence, the owner, is a very kind and helpful person. ..local breakfast is delicious. ..

This is a beautiful Georgian building a five minute walk from George St and shops etc. The owner Florence is a charming lady, very welcoming and informative. Our room was more like a suite, huge with beautiful features and high ceiling. Two heaters were on in it for us arriving o

We enjoyed our visit at A Georgian Residence. The hostess was very nice and the rooms were comfortable. Breakfast was classic Scottish food. Only drawback was our rooms were on the top floor which was difficult to get all our luggage up all the stairs!

How best to travel from the airport to this hotel? What is the estimated taxi fare, if by taxi?
My message may be too late but there is a bus from the airport which stops about ten minutes away from the hotel and is very easy to do, so I would recommend that!

Hello, are there hairdryers provided in the rooms? Many thanks!
There is a hairdryer in the drawer of the dressing table in every room.

I have no knowledge of mickifrippisland having stayed at A Georgian Residence. Before I can proceed to refute the comments I would be grateful if Triipadvisor gave me further information regarding the name of the guest and the dates of the visit.
It is a matter of profound dismay that the guests did not enjoy their stay at A Georgian Residence. I am at a loss regarding the comments on the beds and pillows as this is the first complaint I have ever received. I am totally mystified by the comments about the breakfast. I provide a menu with a wide choice of premium products which include fresh fruit salad, fruit compote, home made yoghurt, cranberry juice, orange juice . Guests have the choice of a traditional Scottish breakfast : bacon, eggs, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms, potato scones , haggis. black pudding . Alternatively there is Scottish smoked salmon, smoked haddock, or kippers. I use premium Scottish produce: white and brown toast , bread rolls, .unsalted butter, marmalade, honey, oatcakes . A Georgian Residence is a Grade A listed building and the incorporation of shower rooms has to comply with the very rigorous constraints imposed by Historic Scotland. This is the first complaint I have received regarding the size of the shower rooms. Moray Place forms part of the Georgian New Town of Edinburgh and was recently described in a BBC2 documentary as the finest street in Scotland. It is true there are many stairs to the top floor where one bedroom and the suite are situated. Unfortunately the concept of lifts and escalators was unknown in the 1820's. However there are several half-landings on which I have placed chairs which have rarely, if ever, been required. I endeavour at all times to provide guests with every possible service. In this connection I should mention when the guest who wrote this review enquired if I would be prepared to store golf clubs prior to their arrival I said this would not be a problem and there would be no storage charge. The package remained unopened until the day of departure when they removed the clubs and left me with a considerable quantity of packaging for disposal. Finally I should add that this guest and friends spent three nights with me and at no time did they mention that they were dissatisfied and I was left with the impression that they had enjoyed their stay in my home.
