We have just spent three nights at the Apex Grassmarket. It was well positioned with lots of lovely restaurants, bars and shops around, and a few minutes walk away from the Royal Mile. The hotel was clean and the staff friendly and welcoming. Our room was on the second floor with amazing views of the castle. (All family rooms have...

I stayed with my daughter we used the pool, the restaurant had some lovely sharing dishes and all the staff we spoke to were very friendly and remembered you. Only one small niggle the room seemed too large for our radiator it stuggled to keep the room warm, but it was Feb in Scotland! The beds were lovely and comfy

Friendly staff on arrival and the room was luxurious and comfortable with beautiful views of the castle. There was however a locked a joining door to the next room which meant the noise from the next room travelled very easily and loudly!

Excellent location and easy to walk to main attractions. Great view of the castle. Pool is ok with small changing rooms and only a sauna. Breakfast was a let down. Good food but service slow and staff were confused about orders. Would go back though.

Loved this Hotel, wanted to stay longer. Close to all amenities. We had a view looking onto the Castle, was wonderful, even slept with curtains open so I wouldn't miss it. Managed to get a great deal, don't know if I could afford it otherwise. Will certainly be looking out for more. Will certainly be back.

The hotel is is a good location with a 5-10 minute walk up the hill to Royal Mile. Bars opposite are really good. Hotel staff were very helpful and welcoming and the hotel is very clean. Could not fault the rooms.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
