The best things about this hotel were the staff, and location. They were very good, staff very friendly, helpful, and trying to do a job under covid is not easy. The reception was excellent. Thank you. The food was ok, the salmon for breakfast really good, and the eggs. I am not sure about evening meals as didn’t have one. There is so much choice of eating out as Grassmarket where this hotel is found is an excellent location, especially in January as we prefer less people around. We walked about 10 miles a day for 2 days, took no transport! We had a great time, helped by the hotel being good. Our room was also quiet as requested. Thanks again reception!

Hotel was very clean and quiet. Bed was super comfortable. Facilities were great. Big plus for a carpark behind the hotel. View from the room was amazing. Customer care was outstanding. I will definitely come back.

Staff at this hotel excellent - reception, bar and breakfast room. Rooms spotless and very comfortable. Breakfast choices, hot and cold, very good - loved the pancakes, crispy bacon and maple syrup! Would like to mention Loi, at reception, who went above and beyond call of duty to help us with a few things. Thank you! Perhaps not best hotel for people with mobility issues as layout is tricky but again staff do all they can to assist with this. General setting of hotel with view of castle very appealing.

The hotel was lovely and we had a view of the Castle from our room. The staff were helpful at all times and even allowed us to check in early as a room of the same type was free. ( we had an early flight so this was around 9am) Facilities were amazing and the room was perfect for us. Perfect location for exploring the city.

Stayed for 12 nights over Christmas and New Year. Superior room with balcony and castle view. Storage for their top rate room woefully inadequate. One small wardrobe for the two of us, no drawers or bedside storage. The other big problem is that disabled access is almost non existent No lift from the entrance just stairs. A 'disabled access' ramp on the side of the hotel is far too steep and leads to a courtyard with broken pavement slabs and no automatic entrance to the building and no rain cover. Apart from this I have given an OK rating because of the good housekeeping service and an excellent Christmas dinner except bear varnished tables. Table cloths would have made the excellent table decorations look nicer! Food and wine expensive. Far cheaper at most places just outside the front door. But the lovely view of the castle and the Grassmarket from the room compensates for it. Overall the atmosphere in the hotel is soulless, and more suitable for visitors who only intend to stay on a short business trip.
