We picked the Glasshouse for two reasons, one it was conveniently located next to The Edinburgh Playhouse we had tickets for Sister Act, and two it looked like a really nice hotel from its website and other reviews were good. During the check in the receptionist was very pleasant and asked why we were in Edinburgh, I said it was...

The location is great, the hotel itself is visually appealing and the rooms are of a good standard. There are a few weaknesses. For some reason there is music playing in the hallways, which can be easily heard in the rooms, not great if you want to have a lie in. Also the room we stayed in was very bright...

We love this hotel. Location is great. Easy to walk around the city. The room is spacious with great views. However, housekeeping was not at the same standard. The sink did not work and they did not attempt to fix it properly. On the next day, they did not even come and clean the room. We had to call. Yes...

A very nice hotel with lovely, contemporary rooms and an amazingly comfortable bed. We had a beautiful room that had its own terrace out to the roof garden. The staff here are very welcoming and friendly. Considering it is a 5 star hotel I was surprised to see glasses and plates still out on tables on some of the terraces...

As we are always on the lookout for a new dining experience we took advantage of an itison deal to make our first visit to The Glasshouse. Oh my, I don't understand how this gem had previously passed us by. We enjoyed an absolutely fabulous evening with excellent food and superb service. OK, reaching the restaurant involves a bit of...

Stayed here last night as a birthday present and it was out of this world! We were upgraded to a suite as it was my birthday. The room was stunning. Really really impressed with all the personal touches.

My wife and I stayed here when we visited Edinburgh and Scotland four our 10th anniversary. We loved this hotel. The rooms were amazing and the staff was incredible. The location is just a short walk from Old Town and the Royal Mile. I cannot recommend this place enough. It was everything we thought it would be!

In short, I love this hotel. This property is unique and truly maintains a 5-star standard. The exterior design of the hotel building is gorgeous. Speaking of service, I had been treated as a valued guest since I stepped into the property. Every staff I encountered were polite and well-trained. I stayed in a spacious, modern and stylish studio which...

This is a beautiful hotel and we really enjoyed our stay. Room was lovely but they have the noisiest toilets I have ever heard 😱. We faced onto the lovely roof top garden and although there was a wedding on as well there was not a lot of noise. Breakfast (£14.50 for a full Scottish) was large but I think...

Myself and teenage daughter booked here for one night stay. Upon arrival we were told we had been upgraded to a garden room. when we were being shown to our room we were informed we were close to the bar. In actual fact our room opened into the bar ! We could hear everything int the bar from our room,...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
