We stayed at this hotel recently for 3 nights. The hotel itself is in a good location not far from the end of Princes Street. The facilities are good and rooms comfortable. Staff are very helpful and attentive and very approachable. Room rates are quite expensive and ranged from £255 per night and £225 not including meals for the duration... More

Just spent 3 nights at this hotel, the location is really good with easy access from the tram stop and on bus routes, main tourist attractions such as the castle and the Royal mile are in walking distance. Our room was comfy although when we returned to relax at half past 3 in the afternoon it had not been attended... More

Upon arrival we were upgraded to the best suite in the hotel by Anna, we were ushered to our suite by Mohamed. The room was absolutely comfortable with spacious bathroom and the whole room was surrounded by glass and balcony. We were right at home with complimentary tray of assorted snacks, very smart move to please tired loyal Marriott members.... More

The floor plan of this room is quite unusual in that the bed is backing onto the window with a small place to sit behind the bed. This made the room very multi functional. Outdoors was a rooftop garden. LOVED that! Being in the middle of the city but access to green area was lovely. Location of the hotel is... More

My husband and I stayed at the Glasshouse recently with four other couples. We had our reservations booked for months all paying the same price for the same level room. One in our party was given a "Platinum" upgrade to a huge suite even though she told him the information on her check in sheet was incorrect. It had someone... More

This Marriott hotel is unique and quirky. Our room was situated by the gardens on the upper levels. It is in a great location and close to the train station. The rooms are spacious, the bed is firm and it served all of our needs for 2 nights.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
