This B&B isn't your typical Scottish bed and breakfast - it is much more luxurious and a lot less "homey". We stayed in room 1 which had grand floor to ceiling windows that offered beautiful views of the church across the street, and was tastefully decorated in a chic muted palate. The room immediately invoked a feeling of relaxation and... More

We have stayed here many times over the past few years. We always stay in Room One. It is a magnificent room, with a large sitting area and beautiful views of St. Mary's Cathedral across the street! The bedroom area is beautifully appointed...great attention to detail. The bathroom is large and has a wonderful rain shower! The owners are delightful... More

I chose Number 29 based on an article I read in Travel and Leisure magazine. Corrine and Simon are wonderful hosts. Their B&B is an historic Georgian house located in the West End across from St. Margaret's Cathedral. A good location-close to buses, the tram and walking distance from Princes Street. I would highly recommend a stay at Number 29.

We stayed in Room 1. I was in awe of the room when I stepped into it with my husband. The room is very spacious. The bedroom area has a nice bathtub and the living room has comfortable couches, a reclining chair and a writing desk. We like the view from the large tall windows in the living room which... More

We stayed here 2 nights at the end of our trip to Scotland. I would have to say this this is truly the finest bed and breakfast or inn I have stayed in after years of traveling! Corrine and Simon are incredibly friendly and helpful. I did not want to leave our room it was so comforting and could have... More

We stayed in room 1, on the first floor. It was in fact a suite. A huge bedroom with a great bed and then a lounge area that was the width of the house. The big double glazed windows overlooked St Marys Cathedral and flooded the room with light. Bliss. Breakfast was delicious and very generous. The house is on... More

This B&B is slated to close next year, so if you want to stay here, hurry! The owners are very friendly, but are not from the local area, and have never visited the castle, so their local knowledge is somewhat limited. The large rooms have very high ceilings. The rooms are "minimalist" according to the owner, meaning that they are... More

We loved our room at the top of the house. Nice bathroom. The breakfasts were excellent and Corrine was very helpful with advice on local restaurants etc. Definitely would go back if we visit Edinburgh again.

We had a large room with an extra room at the top of the house. The room was spacious and the bathroom very large. The bed was very comfortable. We had a nice view of St Mary's Cathedral across the road. Everything was spotlessly clean and the decor was delightful. Breakfast was delicious. Eliza was helpful with her suggestions and... More

Simon and Corinne are the consummate hosts. We stayed at Number 29 for a total of 7 nights (2 nights, 1 away to the Borders, back for 5). Large, bright room on the top floor with spacious bathroom has an attached sitting room with sofa and TV. Our larger bags were kept for us while we spent the one night... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
