We spent one night at Rick's, passing through Edinburgh. The hotel is located in the city centre, close to the shopping area. From outside of the hotel you can catch a glimpse of Edinburgh Castle. The hotel is a nice boutique hotel, with a great cocktail bar and a small restaurant. The breakfast buffet is excellent if you like the... More

Situated 10minute walk from Waverley station so near all attractions. Cafes, pubs and restaurants nearby. Room on third floor and as there is not a lift would be difficult for the disabled. Room comfortable but hot. Electric fan works well but very noisy. Good night's sleep. Bathroom has all amenities. Staff friendly. Didn't have breakfast at the hotel but it... More

We really enjoyed our stay at Rick's. It's easy to find, walking distance to just about anything you might want to do in Edinburgh. We haven't tried the dinner menu, but the breakfast was good (and served till 11am! Latest I've ever seen in a hotel). The hair straightener in the room was also very welcome. The wifi signal was... I've met friends at Ricks for lunch on three occasions and the staff are brilliant. Nothing Iis too much trouble, friendly but not pushy. However I think the drinks are overpriced. Food is very reasonable and perfect lunch sized portion. Always quiet but I don't know why? Try it it's very good.

Returning after to Edinburgh after a few years away Ricks has not aged so well. Was always a good place for a drink and well appointed. Never stayed there but seemed like a good choice when returning to the city. However, decor tired, rooms ok but bathroom very dated and small - ok it's a city centre hotel but even... More

We've just returned from the Tattoo and really liked the hotel as it didn't feel too busy and was close enough to all the action but gave us some escape too. The bed was enormous and so comfortable and I found all the staff really helpful and pleasant. I cannot comment on the food as we ate more centrally. I... More

We arrived from our flight at 9:30pm and having called ahead earlier in the day had at a table reserved for evening meal, kitchens close at 10pm, we were able to chose from the menu before dropping our bags to our rooms on the top floor (be warned there is no lift, something to bare in mind for those a... This was such a disappointment. I visited this hotel during the festival although the purpose was for business. I had been recommended the hotel and was fortunate to find one room remaining back in April when I booked it. At £195 per night I had expected something good. Perhaps the rate was inflated because of the festival but my partner... More

Took my girlfriend here for her birthday and it was superb. When we arrived we sat at the bar and the bartender chatted to us and talked us through the menu, great start! We had a few cocktails and went up to the room. It was lovely and the bed was very big. It also had a little window looking... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
