We just had a family lunch for 9 at Rick's, and it was fabulous! It is near the Castle and a short block from Princess Street. Our server Mikey was so great - silver service with local knowledge on Edinburgh from a 'son of Edinburgh'. Many thanks

We went on a Tuesday night so it was quiet. The food was lovely. Service was excellent, really friendly and efficient staff. Voucher did not include desert but seeing as the food was so nice we stayed on and it was amazing!! Would recommend the chocolate fondue sharing platter.

This place is a higher end bar compared to other establishments and the prices will reflect that. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. There's a good selection of drinks and craft beers. Cocktails appear to be popular in this bar. Definitely worth a visit.

The staff at the hotel when we where there were incredibly friendly towards us and the breakfast was beautiful. the hotel is in a cracking spot we just had a few incidents while staying at the hotel. First of all staying in room 2 with the bins underneath the window including bottle bin which was used after midnight and before... More

Booked this hotel through a discount voucher. Location is just two streets across from Princes Street and perfect for sightseeing. The hotel is compact but the rooms are bigger than anticipated, lovely big bed which was very comfortable. Room clean and tidy but needed a little upkeep (wall light loose from the wall) bath robes a nice touch and mini... More

Had lunch al fresco - bit awkward on a hill but the staff were exceptionally friendly and conscientious. The food was good and reasonably priced and the house wine was lovely. We will definitely go back.

The room was at street level resembled a cell, no light window surrounded by waste bins and clouds of flies so could not be opened. No air conditioning and it was impossible to sleep due to the heat. There was absolutely no air movement in the room and the only fan provided was also malfunctioning. The bathroom sink and bath... More

Just been for breakfast here and it was excellent. Very friendly atmosphere and great fried tomatoes. Mushrooms, black pudding, haggis, various eggs also. Got a feeling they probably do great steak. They also had natural yogurts and fruit etc. Great value and better than any hotel

A small, modern boutique hotel just off George Street (right behind Princes Street) so right in the thick of things in the centre of the city. You walk down a few steps and check in at the desk. Behind you is the bar and dining area, and then at the back are the rooms. My room was compact but all... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
