Unfortunately any charm ended with the marble elephant and the old rickshaw outside the hotel. Inside the owners had gone for the shabby-chic look but only achieved the shabby. The decor was so tired it was nearly moribund and the breakfast was meagre and stale.

I like the style of the hotel and staff are welcoming. Literally booked last minute kinda thing and was perfect for what i needed. what I paid I wasnt expecting much but it literally blew me away with what I got. Ive paid double the amount before to stay in lower quality rooms in Edinburgh. If i need to stay...

Less than 15 minute walk to Haymarket restaurants and pubs while less than one block from two city bus stops. Simple, complimentary breakfast was sufficient to start my day. The room furniture, fixtures and linens were a dated style but clean and in good condition thus adequate. Lighting in the room and hallways was sparse. A person with mobility difficulties,...

Booked the hotel for a concert on 3rd June. Very close to the venue. We were parked in restrictive parking zone and the staff had no problem putting a ticket on to cover the time we were out. Our room was basic, but very clean and the bed was soo comfortable! Just wish I had more time in it! Breakfast...

I booked this hotel a year in advance as we were going to a concert at Murrayfield. The hotel is only a 10min walk from Haymarket train station, and if you keep going, Murrayfield is only a further 10min walk, which is great! The hotel itself looks impressive from the outside however I was slightly dissapointed with the room. The...

Stayed for one night with my toddler. Staff were lovely, room clean, relatively large and very quiet. Would stay again. No longer linked to the Indian takeaway but staff recommended another who deliver. Website contact details out of date & didn't receive reply from email address but online booking went through & all was fine. Very good value for money....

Stayed for two nights from 09/05/2014. I was a little concerned following the reviews. Yes it is looking dated but for a cheap stay it was ok. The staff were helpful and polite. The continental breakfast was ok , I have had worse at more expensive places. Room was clean , so was the bathroom , bed linen and towels...

The hotel is quite sweet, it is in a nice building and the outside is particularly nice. The room we ordered was a twin. however it was actually a double bed and a pull out bed next to the window which was only suitable for a child. Apart from that it was decent enough. The breakfast I was extremely disappointed...

Pleasantly welcomed, no complaints with staff who attended. Our room is advertised as Duluxe - just depends on your expectations. First impressions of the room.... was... well.... its ok. Carpet looked like it hadn't been hoovered to deluxe standard. No soap for hand washing. Towels and Sheet Bedding were to the deluxe standard I was expecting: however no duvet. Blankets...

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
