Checked in and checked straight back out last night. Private bathroom means trot down the corridor. Phenominal views - it was a view under a bridge. Room was in the basement. Smelt of damp. The photos on their website was. Othing like I experienced. Horrible.

We are sorry that you felt the need to write this review. We do have one single room which has a private bathroom next to it, but this is clearly outlined on all our booking agents websites on the room type, as well as the confirmation. There is no damp within the hotel - it was recently refurbished to the...

We are sorry that you choose to write this review. On checking in, we accept that the first room you were shown at the hotel was not of the standard that we set at the Ballantrae. This has been addressed with the Housekeeping Manager, and steps have been taken since to make sure that this is not repeated. However, we...

Stayed here last night 10/06/15 in room 20. Made a last minute booking on booking.com and got the room for two adults one night for £89 thought this was grt considering it is a 5 minute walk from princes street. Room had a fantastic view, saw the sun setting 👌 (have added picture) for the money we got a clean,...

I have no complaints about the location. It's right across a bus stop and the tram going to the airport is right across the hotel. I can walk all over downtown Edinburgh without even taking any of the buses. Having said that, there's plenty of hotels that have the same characteristics anyway - cheap, close to commute, at the heart...

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel. We are sorry that you had an issue with the en-suite. We do have one room which has a private bathroom next to it, but this feature is clearly stated on all the websites we are available on, and is offered at a cheaper rate that the other single en-suite...

I'll start by saying that our room was decent and clean, but it was on the 4th floor with NO lift! I had requested a lower floor. The view of the Firth of Forth was amazing, but I'm not sure it was worth the climb every day. Breakfast was abysmal. There was not nearly enough seating for the size of...

I recently visited Edinburgh over May half term and must say it is fantastic city to visit. I came across Ballentrae Hotel on Booking.com with what seemed a very good discount for 4nights , £380 down from over £900. When we arrived a couple in front checking in for 3 nights payed their bill of over £900. I'm glad they...

Though my room was large and comfortable enough, it was marred by uneven housekeeping. Garbage wasn't always emptied. The floor was never vacuumed. Sheets were not changed during a 5 day stay, even though I had spilled some chocolate on them. One day the beds weren't even made. Bathroom supplies were not replenished- we wound up with many hand cremes,...

Visited this hotel last week as me and my partner decided to have a weekend away for the bank holiday. My family and I stayed in this hotel for one night during the May half-term period. The three of us stayed in the Superior Quadruple Suite which was absolutely beautiful. Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
