I never normally leave any reviews for restaurants etc.... however, my girlfriend and I booked for Afternoon tea at 3.30pm today, and were looking forward to a nice afternoon. Firstly the bar staff couldn't find our booking even after my girlfriend showing confirmation and either way it was extremely quiet so booking would not have been a necessity nonetheless. Secondly...

My wife and I stayed on the 10th January and we got a deal which was overnight stay with £20 each voucher towards dinner, a bottle of wine and breakfast. We had been to the hotel many times for drinks and were impressed, so we were really looking forward to our stay, thinking it would be of the same standard....

Recently stayed on DB and B deal. We really enjoyed our night, food was very good and staff were very friendly. We would definitely return due to its central location as well. However there was problems with meals in dining room but not with our own. Pleasant hotel with nice staff.

After reading some of the reviews on here I was a bit worried but I have to say we had a fab time!! Lovely hotel, amazing food & decor. Very clean! Yes there are a few things that would make it better but nothing that bad that I would complain about. At check in we were not shown or told...

Staying here for a night before catching a flight tomorrow and it's a great location just down the street from the Playhouse and walking distance (5-10 minutes) from Waverley Station. It would have gotten five stars but there is no lift and a good few flights of stairs if you're on second or third floor. Not suitable for everyone for...

We stayed here last night as we were in Edinburgh for the hogmanay celebrations. Our room was tiny and at the very top floor. The toilet / shower room was also tiny, the shower was like a dribble and the toilet wasn't clean. As we were only there for one night we never said anything to staff but im really...

Hi Jordan A Thanks for your review. I am sorry that the room allocated was not to your liking. Certainly if the toilet wasn't clean you should have reported that at the time and we would have addressed that for you. I have passed this on the housekeeping team as this clearly isn't something we'd like to become known for....

We arrived by bus, hotel is almost opposite bus station, so a good start. Nice big room although located on top floor and no lift, not easy with a heavy case, no offer at Reception to help carry luggage. Menu for dinner a bit limited and doesn't change. Maybe just a hickup on our first night, starters took 45 minutes...

Hi Mike_CLargs Thanks for reviewing The Place. One or two guest service issues that I have passed on to the department manager to address. We should always be in a position to assist with luggage on request Thanks again for raising these matters Colin F. Manager

My friend recently drag me to The Place. I say dragged me because after whole morning of shopping I wanted to go home not for a dinner, I was grumpy and wet. Somehow the staff at The Place recognized my tiredness and turned it around, they made my day. I felt treated so well and effortlessly it seamed. There was lovely...

My first visit to The Place which i booked on a good price and ideal for my needs ,when I booked a 'cosy'...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
