Hi Carol G Thanks for your review. We are reviewing our breakfast procedures and food offering as we speak following 2 or 3 comments which have cropped up of late. Complaints of this nature are unusual for us and we hope to get back to tip top as soon as our review is complete and any underlying issues eradicated. Thanks...

We stayed here on the second night of our trip to Edinburgh, we were given the top floor room many, many stairs to climb! The room was very average, I expected much more. The room was clean enough but foostie - we've had to wash everything we took with us when got back home! This has been the worst breakfast...

Hello Stephen S Thanks for your review. We seem to have missed out on a few basics during your stay and I am sorry that we weren't up to scratch. Breakfast in particular does not sound like what we would like to provide. I have passed your comments on to the Restaurant Manager and I am sure he will take...

My boyfriend and I stayed here on a weekday after arriving back to Scotland from a winter break to Copenhagen. We thought it would be a nice way to end the trip by catching the Christmas market and also to relax after spending days walking miles and miles! I have to say that I did have high hopes for The...

Had a very nice lunch here with my friend , enjoyed soup and half sandwich very tasty followed by sticky toffee pudding. Very enjoyable, unobtrusive service and not rushed as we sat and chatted. Nice and quiet venue as the city was jumping!

I went here for dinner with my partner for a pre-theatre dinner. We weren't very impressed with the restaurant. The food wasn't very good, slow service and the restaurant was strangely warm and had no atmosphere.

Stayed here recently for one night whilst visiting the Christmas markets etc in Edinburgh. Initial impressions - very nice hotel, staff on front desk helpful, and our room was wonderful, spacious, clean, comfortable and with a spectacular view across the rooftops towards the Firth of Forth. Part of our booking included dinner and breakfast the next morning. Whilst the food...

Hello Stephen. Thanks for taking the time for such a comprehensive review. Its a shame that the food was up to standard but the finer points of good service we are striving for let us down on this occasion. We learn from these comments and they have been passed on to the appropriate managers for evaluation and corrective training. Thanks...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
