Impressed with the size of the room we were given. Overlooked the street. Heating came on pretty much instantly when you turned the radiators. Nice hot shower. Free tea and coffee and hot chocolate/smellies. Breakfast is not buffet, but you can choose what you want from a list on a menu and they bring it out. Full Scottish breakfast comes... More

We stayed here two nights. The common areas downstairs are beautiful with all the original wood and staircase. The Library upstairs is beautiful and was a welcome place to relax a bit after our long flight from Atlanta. Coffee, tea, water and cookies are provided for a light snack. Breakfast was good. Typical continental fare and a menu to order... More

For a place so highly rated on TripAdvisor, we were very disappointed. We stayed 3 nights, and despite having booked 8 months in advance I swear we were given the worst room. Before we had even seen our room, the Duty Manager sheepishly suggested we ask for a different room the following morning. He also suggested we not plan to... More

We stayed one night on a Scottish road trip. We took our Cockapoo with us, and we were all made to feel very welcome. The dog even got given a bed and some bowls. Place is very well located for the city, not far to walk to places. Hotel was very clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast was good and the... More

We Stayed at this charming house at the end of a tour all around scotland. The room was a bit small but comfortable, the location just perfect, walkable to restaurants, shops and the sites. The location itself is on a quiet street. The house has been updated enough to offer all the modern conviences, but left the charming bits. Historically this... More

Edinburgh was full and we were lucky to get this room for under £150. Lovely hotel environment even though our room was small and on the top floor. We had an excellent view over the town. Nice artwork on the walls, room decoration was clean and fresh. Having beautiful common rooms was a highlight the library, breakfast room and quiet... More

Please make sure when you book this hotel you understand exactley what bed size you are going to receive. If you look on the web site under List Of Room Facilities is quotes Double beds. Some rooms have what seems to be classed as Queen Petite beds commonly know as 3/4 beds or 4ft beds. Really think most couples would... More

Very comfortabe double room on 4th floor - #20. Two skylight windows with shades, that opened for plenty of ventilation. Bright and airy. Large bath with two smaller skylight windows. Plenty of storage space. Electric kettle in room. Great view of castle and fireworks at the finish of Tattoo and Edinburgh Festival. Wonderful breakfast included.

We have stayed at this B&B every year and we really like the personal touches the staff always make. You are remembered, and your room is always ready, if not your luggage is kept for you until you are ready to go to your room. Likewise when you leave your luggage is kept so you can go out without your... More

Beautiful building. Being in new town is very nice and close to the tram if you need it. The rooms are really nice and I enjoyed the modern bathrooms. The staff was wonderful, very helpful and kind. The breakfast was good. The only thing I didn't like is the fact that the elevator takes a long time and it's quite... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
