Second stay here. I like the facilities in the room - microwave, dishwasher, crockery and cutlery. Great location. Walking distance even to Princes Street. Starbucks, small supermarket and restaurants nearby. The staff are great. Mailed a package for me. Attentive and helpful when the washing machine broke. I like a corner room. They are spacious. Not sure I'd be so...

This was an excellent selected hotel that was close to Old town, Royal Mile. The walk was by the University and was only ten minutes to the Royal Mile. Two employees that were so friendly and professional were Paul and Gillian. The room was quiet and clean and spacious. It is also very affordable with an included breakfast.

The room was huge with all the modern amenities that you would require to stay there comfortably for a long period. We even had a dish washer. The location is very central once you get your bearings as it is very near Edinburgh university and about 20-30 minutes by foot to the Royal Mile. Breakfast was adequate and the hotel...

Great location in the emerging quartermile district and a pleasant walk back to the Castle and The Mound. The rooms as you would expect from Marriott are clean, well appointed and good towels and linens. The place is however just cold and soulless. Cheap and creaky fake wooden floors. Tiny bathrooms. Uncomfortable lounge furniture and basic kitchen. Staff are great...

Very basic but clean and tidy. Staff were friendly. A little walk from princes street and George street walked into town first time but got taxi back and back in and back to the hotel on night time. Cost about £7-8. Breakfast was what you would expect from a buffet. I would stay here again

The hotel is nice, clean and roomy - with large spacey suites. The breakfast room was nice and light and the breakfast great. The hotel lies in a construction area and we had a room with a lot of noice outside. This was the only downside. The staff were very friendly.

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
