Mold in the shower. Very small bathroom. Spacious room with a small kitchen but everything looks in need of repair. Small elevator which refuses to stop on its way down to take other guests, so most of the time using the stairs is quicker. Small breakfast area which shares with reception. We booked 4 month ahead and got a quote... More

We had a very pleasant stay: our room (on 6th floor) was very clean and modern with large openable windows and - thanks god - a wooden floor (no carpet)! Breakfast was good and enough. The hotel is located in a very modern quarter, if you like elegant glass architecture (what I do) you will enjoy. Nearby are some good... More

The property is located within walking distance of The Edinburgh Castle; Arthur's Seat; Elephant House; Waverly Station; Dynamic Earth Science Museum and other notable sites. The Meadows Park sits right behind the hotel. The park has several walking paths that lead to three different arteries of the area. You will find teams practicing drills, joggers, walkers, cyclists and dog walkers.... More

As regular visitors to the Edinburgh Festival this was our first stay in the Residence Inn but not our last. Very conveniently situated for walking to most things and a quiet refuge from the crowds. The staff are all pleasant and helpful and the inclusive breakfast offers a good choice. Lots of nice touches like free wifi, daily newspaper and... More

After having traveled almost 48 hours to get to the UK & our final destination, Edinburgh, the most amazing staff greeted us and allowed an early check-in for free. We had a great room, and the hotel was in a perfect location for exploring Edinburgh by foot. The area is dead quiet at night which allowed for a great night's... More

This hotel is in a wonderful location in the developing Quartermile area - walking distance to the Royal Mile, Grass Market and University of Edinburgh. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious. Breakfast is included. Free washer and dryer available. Perfect location if attending Festival.

We stayed here at the very beginning of the Edinburgh Festival this month. It's part of the very new Quartermile development near the old Royal Infirmary (they're still doing construction in the area). It's a perfect location if you're there for the festival: the Underbelly is practically on the doorstep, and it's a short walk to many, many venues, including... More

We stayed at the Residence Inn for 3 nights in mid July. Just a few minutes away from most tourist attractions This modern building has all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay, including a laundry room. Our Studio was clean, spacious and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and breakfast more than adequate.

Great location in the University section of town. Walkable to most attractions. Staff is very helpful. Our luggage was lost by the airlines but easy access to laundry saved the day. Really impressed by the included breakfast. Much more than expected.

We loved the help from the front desk. Anything we asked they could do. I do like Marriott, I must admit, so to travel to Scotland for the first time I opted to stay in the Residence Inn Edinburgh. It was a touch more expensive than I expected (pounds!), but when we arrived we had booked a 2 room suite... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
