I am a Marriott member and this was a great hotel. The location was excellent- near restaurants, town, castle. Staff were wonderful. Breakfast was excellent with many choices. It is near the University so many things going on. Highly recommend.

The staff are friendly and helpful, from the front desk to the housekeeping staff. The rooms are a great size, especially for Europe, with a kitchenette. It is within walking distance of just about anywhere you would want to be for a tourist, and right next to Edinburgh campus. There is a small grocery a minute away, a small laundry... More

First of all, the staff is excellent! Just excellent! The hotel, however, was very hard for us to find. Once there, parking, even to just check in, is a hassle. The parking garage is NOT in the same building which we found strange. That means schlepping your luggage out in the rain to the hotel, if it happens to be... More

I must start my saying that we did not spend the night. Upon arrival, we noticed that all the windows were open, and that usually means one thing - no air conditioning. In fact, the hotel is not air conditioned at all. It was warm in Edinburgh, and the hotel does provide fans, but the windows are very small. So,... More

This hotel is meant for both long and short term visitors. Our room had a kitchenette, settee, armchair and writing desk and the bathroom boasts a very large walk in shower. There is a Sainsbury's store just round the corner and restaurants within 100yards (hence the kitchenette in case you want to stay in). A very good breakfast is included... More

We stayed at this property 2 weeks ago. It is in a convenient location, especially by foot. Less than a 10 minute walk to Royal Mile, very close to shopping. On the backside of property, you'll find a Starbucks, grocery store and a few little restaurants. The breakfast in the morning was right on point, serving, bacon, eggs, saysage, pastries,... More

The hotel is modern, clean, rooms are a nice size. Our deal included breakfast, which was pretty good. It's in the University Part of town, a 5-10 minute walk from the Royal Mile. It's also right near a very nice park.

Stayed this weekend as part of a uni drop-off visit. The hotel is approx 10 minutes walk to Deaconess halls and 10 minutes max to the Royal Mile. Pros: friendly and efficient staff; clean studio; good size room; light; breakfast included; location and the kitchenette was a useful bonus. Cons: the sliding bathroom door wasn't a snug fit and whilst... More

The hotel is situated around lots of construction, I was not told this when I booked the hotel. Walking back to the hotel at night can be a little scary as there are no lights and you have to walk along the construction with no lights. The room view included construction. We had a hole in our window so bugs... More

Management response:

Dear Kar S, Thank you for sharing your review from your recent stay with us at the Residence Inn by Marriott Edinburgh. I am apologetic that you found the construction in the area to be a factor of negative impact to your stay. The Quartermile is an up and coming development and the construction will be limited in due course.... More

Quiet area not far from Hop on Hop off bus stop (5 minute walk) Friendly and very helpful staff. I requested a walk in shower so bathroom was fitted out for wheelchair. Perfect meant didn't have to step into tall bathtub. Kitchen had microwave, dishwasher, fridge, sink, kettle and toaster. Room very spacious. Wi fi and nice breakfast. Beds not... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
