We booked this hotel a long time before our stay, then reading reviews the closer it got we wondered if we had chose unwisely! Far from it, yes we had a room on the top floor (Room 9), yes it was a hike to our room but so what! Room on the small side, but fit for purpose. Clean, tidy...

Not sure how to review this hotel. It's in a great location, in a quiet, residential area, and the conservatory dining room is lovely, with a sunny beer garden outside. Car park is very small, but we got the last space, so that was fine. All seemed great until we went to our room. Carts of dirty linen and discarded...

26-28 October, 2009 (Mon-Wed). Admittedly, this isn't among the most recent of reviews by a fair margin. On the other hand, I have some extremely detailed notes of a memorable stay in The Royal Ettrick hotel. On 26 October (Monday), I had set out from Bristol for Edinburgh on flight U2 431 (EasyJet) [07:25 pm - 08:40 pm]. From the...

I stayed here with my family for a wedding this weekend. We landed lucky as we were in the glorious James suite. We arrived and were greeted by a very pleasant guy who gave us all the necessary information. We couldn't believe our luck when we opened the door to the James suite. It was absolutely spectacular. We ate in...

We had a very indifferent meal, but even the poor food was better than the awful service. No one seemed interested in serving us, especially poor was their approach to looking after the 2 toddlers. We will not be going back

Clean spacious room. Good shower. On the top floor so a bit of a climb. Could do with redecorating though. Chipped paintwork, bathroom window with louvered glass in poor condition. TV and tea, coffee making facility. Free WiFi if a bit weak on the top floor. Large double bed but not so comfortable. Check in/out was ok, but minimum interaction from...

Beautiful spacious room, spotlessly clean. We had a delicious breakfast with plenty to eat. We walked from our hotel to Edinburgh Castle, around a 20 minute walk. Can't fault our stay in Royal Ettrick, we will be back !

Firstly, this place failed in that - apart from the ubiquitous and unappetising school dinner 'macaroni and cheese' on the bar menu - there are no vegetarian choices on the main menu. If you enquire, you will be grunted at and then told the 'chef' MIGHT be able to do you a risotto (no description of type) or veggie burger....

Excellent small hotel on western outskirts of Edinburgh. Parking on site, close to bus routes and just 20 mins from Waverley Station. Very good breakfast, set us up for the day. Second time staying here, would certainly have no problem coming back again. Exec bedroom has plenty of room, nice double couch, very tall ceilings and spacious bathroom.

Got to the hotel only to realise that I'd booked the wrong night. Despite expecting to be turned away, the Duty Manager at the time was extremely helpful in finding us a room. The room itself was absolutely lovely and I would recommend to anyone!
