We stayed here in a family room for two nights for the Christmas Market and this was my first visit to a Travelodge in Edinburgh having stayed at Premier Inn before. I chose this as it was cheaper than the Premier Inn close by but was still over sixty pounds per night. I found

Great location, close to the beach and a short drive to the city centre. Room was ok but as you would expect for the age of the building things like the carpet do need an upgrade. Good nights sleep and the sheets and pillows were excellent.

Was a last minute booking and very pleasantly surprised. Travel lodges can be a hit or a miss but this one was great. Staff were friendly, room was clean and warm. Could not have asked for more. Easy check out, no hassles.

Can you walk to the train station from the hotel?
It notes that it is a 20 minute walk to Musselburgh and the local train station but it is too remote and close to a very busy road. It's also very dark at night and hard to see the road leading into the hotel by car so I wouldn't recommend trying to walk it at night especially in winter when it's dark. Not a good place overall in my opinion but if you are going to stay here a car is needed or taxis to and from the train station. Trains run every half hour to and from Edinburgh but once you are in the hotel nothing about except a petrol station which has a microwave and kettle along with usual refreshments a garage stocks. Would need a car to get about but it is manageable to use the train park and ride system. My advice would be to stay at Edinburgh Premier Inn Newcraighall which has a train station across the road and a restaurant on site and is cheaper than booking in Edinburgh I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all as not user friendly unless there is nothing else available.

Can we bring our own picnic into our room to eat it - on special diets.
Yes as there is no dining facilities at the hotel, and there is only a petrol station within walking distance. You will be best t bring your own food
