We recently had a fantastic stay at the Balmoral exceeding every expectation. The hotel is beautiful - full of elegance and charm from the minute we arrived. The staff was very welcoming to us. There was an issue with the room we reserved due to a late vacancy. The management offered a gracious solution to us, and we had a perfect stay. A special thanks to Greg Leat for his kindness and attentiveness. The room was lovely, spacious and with a gorgeous view. We had high tea during our stay, and it was wonderful. All the food we had at The Balmoral was delicious. We decided to have room service for our breakfasts and for dinner. The service was great as was the presentation. The entire experience at The Balmoral was memorable and we hope to return again someday. Thank you for making our anniversary celebration so special!

What a Welcome to Edinburgh! We arrived jetlagged, but happy to have two days of travel behind us. We had a lovely cocktail in the bar while waiting for our room to be readied for us. Every single encounter we had with hotel staff was warm and friendly--front desk staff, bar staff, doormen, bellman, and brasserie staff. Our room was quiet and spotlessly clean, with a beautiful marble bathroom and every amenity imaginable. The king bed and its linens were dreamy. Even the flowers in the lobby were gorgeous. We only stayed one night, but we'd love to return for tea. The Balmoral is one of the great hotels of the world and I hope to visit again one day.

A few days of excitement and anticipation of a luxury overnight stay in central Edinburgh quickly changed to disappointment as we checked in our room. As it looked nothing like the Booking.com pictures, was very basic and with a crappy view. Giving that it set us back a whopping £430 and was intended as a special treat as a reward for spending two years in hospital on my Birthday, you can understand why I felt frustrated. My husband said that I've made a silly decision, but he didn't want to talk me out of it as he knew how important it was to me. So we sat on it, posted some Instagram videos, went for a walk and dinner, reluctantly came back to our room and then friends suggested we should complain. And it's not usually the sort of things I do, if I don't like something - I just shut my eyes and ears, hide behind my husbands back while sending him on the front line to sort everything out. This time I felt strongly about it. I felt so in the right, I went downstairs and spoke to manager, saying politely that I am not happy with the room, that the reservation pictures are nothing like what we've got and asked if they can do something about it. And surprisingly they did! No fuss or anything, but within minutes we were shown to a new, much nicer room as a free "upgrade". And things immediately improved. I felt like eventually I did get a treat that I deserved. So to sum up the review: the staff is great: understated but efficient service, which we all like, but rooms are questionable. While getting this reservation I noticed that some £450 per night rooms don't even have a private bathroom! Can you believe it? 5* hotel in the city centre?

Classic hotel in Edinburgh, located just between the Old and New town. The rooms are big and decorated with a vintage touch. We were staying next to the JK Rowling Suite, on the 5th floor. The building itself it's a landmark. Only regret is that we couldn't get a room with the castle view, but hopefully next time.

We stayed at the Balmoral in mid-September. The hotel has an excellent reputation & it lived up to it in every way. Our room was spacious and in immaculate condition. It was centrally located in Edinburgh, next to thewaverly Station, well within walking distance of restaurants, entertainment & shopping. We'd definitely make a point of staying there again.

My husband and I planned a last minute jaunt from NJ to Edinburgh, and this hotel and it’s staff did not disappoint! Firstly, it’s location is perfect and central, very easy to get anywhere you want to go, as it sits atop Waverley Train Station (we took the fast train to London after our 4 nights here), which makes it super convenient and a real time saver! The property is gorgeous, the rooms are perfection, the health club and pool are well equipped and every staff member is so pleasant, helpful and kind(forgot to mention that our room had a great view of Edinburgh Castle). We had a delicious breakfast every morning at The Prince, with terrific service! My husband enjoyed his various Scotch/Whiskey tastings every evening in the Scotch Bar with great suggestion and direction provided by Dario! Jan, our concierge, helped us with recommendations, reservations, directions, and his attention to detail was amazing! Brian, our night concierge/bellman was extremely kind and helpful, he made our transfer down to the train station seamless with a smile! This Balmoral is run by fabulous management, and was extremely Professional, meticulous, immaculate, relaxing and full of happy faces! I highly recommend this gem of a hotel, and it’s staff is second to none! Thank You!

We are here for 2 nights but on the 2nd night had to change our room because of some very foul smell from the air conditioning vents ( room no 246) To add to the discomfort, we are put to a room which is connected to 2 other adjoining rooms. This room is a complete mess ( room no 200) After paying so much, one gets to experience this ! This is really sad 😢 😞.People, Beware ! You might end up in one such ugly rooms or with rooms with foul smelling AC ducts in this so called beautiful high end hotel of Balmoral, Edinburg

We had a good experience during our stay but I have had a horrendous time after as they tried to charge me for a mini bar item I did not use and charges for another room. I paid for my friends room at the last minute because his app wasnt working on his phone. He gave the front desk his credit card while I was standing there and they stuck me with the bill for his incidentals which were not authorized. I asked for a complete breakdown of his room charges so I could try and resolve with the other party, AMX and the hotel and they have stopped responding. I am beyond frustrated right now. I had actually given them a good review initially but now that I am having to deal with this situation that had yet to be resolved it has put a very bad taste in my mouth. Don't leave without checking your charges and be sure to check your credit card after the fact. This is not what I would have expected from a 5 star hotel and has cost me countless hours of my time. They clearly could care less.

Dear Donna B I was very sorry to learn that you experienced disappointed following some billing issues. I have had the opportunity to discuss this with my front desk team today and have been advised that this was largely down to a rare lapse in internal communications. I have been informed that the issue is now resolved. Please do get back in touch should you have any further query. Kindest regards Richard C General Manager

Wonderful stay for our ruby wedding anniversary. Every member of staff we met from the moment we arrived to avail of the valet parking to the moment we left after 2 wonderful nights were without exception amazing. Maintenance, housekeeping, waiters, concierge, bar staff, reception staff were to a person obviously well trained, knowledgeable and friendly while professional. Standards were genuine 5 star. The Balmoral exemplifies what 5 star should be. We have stayed in other apparent 5 star hotels but none even hold a light to, or could compare with, The Balmoral. So many thoughtful and subtle little touches that made it stand out. Staff who seem to genuinely care that you are having a great stay.

Overnight stay in this fine hotel. Staff were so friendly and attentive! Room was extremely comfortable although bath/shower was a bit tricky getting in and out of! Lunch and breakfast was great but breakfast was extremely busy! For us it lacked somewhere cosy to take some tea in the afternoon. Also be aware of service charge on your bill.

Dear Beckybsket1 Thank you for your kind review and I am delighted that you enjoyed the service from our warm and friendly staff. I am sorry that you found the bath/shower tricky to get in and out of, however please note for any future stays you can request accessible showers. Afternoon tea can be taken in our spectacular Palm Court, however we also have our library area of the bar which I am not sure if you visited? Additionally we have a mezzanine level, where one can sit and enjoy listening to the harp at the same time. The service charge on the bill is entirely at your discretion and can be removed upon check out. I thank you for your comments and very much hope we shall have the great pleasure of welcoming you to The Balmoral in the not too distant future I hope. Kindest regards Richard C General Manager
